Particular embodiments described herein provide a display that includes a mask that includes a one or more exposed areas, a top electrode, one or more bottom electrodes, a dielectric between the top electrode and the one or more bottom electrodes, and an electrical connection to create a differential voltage between the top electrode and the one or more bottom electrodes.

Electrical connection to keycap

Techniques related to wireless communication of an input device are described herein. An apparatus may include a display at the input device, a wireless transmission architecture, and a wireless receiver. The wireless transmission architecture is to broadcast a signal to the display, and wireless receiver to receive the broadcast signal at the display. The broadcast signal is configured to provide a power signal to initiate operations of the display, a data signal to provide content to be displayed at the display, or any combination thereof.

Wireless energy and data transfer to a display of an input device

Particular embodiments described herein provide for a keycap. The keycap can include a protective layer and an active element, where the height of protective layer and the active element is less than six (6) millimeters in height. The keycap can also include a front plane layer, a back plane layer, where the front plane layer and the back plane layer comprise the active element, and an electrical connection through the keycap to provide electrical communication with the active element.

Particular embodiments described herein provide a keycap that includes a plurality of front plane elements, where each front plane element includes a top electrode, a conductive region under each of the plurality of front plane elements, where each conductive region includes a bottom electrode and a top electrode coupling area, where each top electrode coupling area is electrically coupled to a common top electrode node, an electrical path between each top electrode and each corresponding top electrode coupling area such that each top electrode is connected to the common top electrode node, and a dielectric between each top electrode and each bottom electrode.
