A method and apparatus are provided for displaying a three dimensional (3D) image in a mobile communication terminal. The method includes displaying an image comprising at least one object; sensing a touch gesture selecting an object for changing a three dimensional depth of the object among the at least one object with the image displayed; checking the three dimensional depth of the selected object; determining the three dimensional depth of the selected object based on the checked three dimensional depth; and displaying the selected object reflecting the determined three dimensional depth.

Methods and apparatus for providing a three-dimensional user interface in an electronic device are provided. An editing mode of a three-dimensional user interface screen is executed in which a plurality of content items is displayed in a three-dimensional space. It is determined whether a content item from among the plurality of content items is moved in the editing mode. When it is determined that the content item is moved, it is determined whether the content item overlaps a portion of an area of another content item from among the plurality of content items. When it is determined that the content item overlaps the portion of the area of the other content item, the content item is moved a minimum distance along a Z-axis direction so that the content item no longer overlaps the portion of the area of the other content item. The Z-axis direction indicates perspective information.

A method and apparatus are provided for displaying a three dimensional (3D) image by a mobile terminal. The method includes receiving an object for displaying; identifying attribute information of a content item or application associated with the object; determining a depth of the object based on the attribute information; and displaying the object to reflect the depth.
