An apparatus includes a calibration circuit operative to produce an error signal indicative of an error associated with a current generator circuit generating a secondary current from a reference current. The secondary current is proportional to the reference current. The calibration circuit derives an adjustment value from the error signal and applies the adjustment value to the current generator circuit. Application of the adjustment value reduces a magnitude of the error signal.

Digital-to-analog converter circuitry includes sequence of multiple current drive modules. The sequence may include a first current drive module and a second current drive module of a digital-to-analog converter. The first current drive module is switchable between: i) a first mode of producing a first reference current that is mirrored by a second current drive module coupled to the first current drive module; and ii) a second mode of mirroring a second reference current that is produced by the second current drive module or a third current drive module coupled to the first current drive module.

Power supply and setpoint voltage generation

An isolated switched-mode power converter converts power from an input source into power for an output load. A digital controller senses a secondary-side voltage, such as a rectified voltage, of the power converter. The secondary-side voltage is divided down using a high-impedance voltage divider. The resultant divided-down voltage is provided to a voltage sensor within the digital controller. The voltage sensor level shifts the provided voltage, and buffers the resulting level-shifted voltage. The buffered, level-shifted voltage is provided to a tracking analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for digitization. The buffered signal provided to the tracking ADC has a high current capability, such that the voltage input to the tracking ADC may quickly converge before the tracking ADC outputs a digital value for the sensed secondary-side voltage.

A tracking analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for a power converter includes a first tracking loop and a second tracking loop. The first tracking loop is configured to track a voltage input to the tracking ADC using one or more comparators and has a re-clocking circuit to mitigate the impact of comparator output metastability, but introduces multi-cycle latency which increases a residual error of the voltage tracking provided by the first tracking loop. The second tracking loop is configured to supplement the voltage tracking provided by the first tracking loop and to reduce the residual error of the voltage tracking for dynamic changes at the voltage input. The second tracking loop has a single-cycle latency and is implemented with logic that is less sensitive to logic errors due to comparator metastability. Corresponding methods of voltage tracking and an electronic system are also described.

Circuits and methods for secondary-side rectified voltage sensing in isolated switched-mode power converters

A voltage regulator includes a power stage configured to produce an output voltage from an input voltage at an input voltage terminal, a shunt resistor connected in series between the input voltage terminal and the power stage, a first level shifting resistor connected in series between a first terminal of the shunt resistor and a first sense pin of the controller, and a second level shifting resistor connected in series between a second terminal of the shunt resistor and a second sense pin of the controller. The input current of the regulator is sensed as a function of the voltage across the shunt resistor, as shifted down by the level shifting resistors and measured across the sense pins. The input voltage of the regulator is sensed as a function of the current flowing through either one of the level shifting resistors, as measured at one of the sense pins.
