Disclosed is a chipping resistance-imparting aqueous dispersion composition comprising a nonvolatile component (film-forming component) dispersed in water, said nonvolatile component containing an olefin thermoplastic elastomer or a styrene/conjugated diene block copolymer or its hydrogenation product. A coating film obtained by the use of the aqueous dispersion composition as an aqueous primer or an additive to a water paint is excellent in chipping resistance as well as in other properties such as film appearance, adhesion properties, heat resistance, moisture resistance and gasoline resistance.

Disclosed is a resin dispersion comprising solid particles of a graft modified ethylene/1-olefin random copolymer dispersed in an organic solvent, which has (a) a specific content of an &agr;-olefin component, (b) a specific intrinsic viscosity (&eegr;) and (h) a specific content of a polar monomer component. The resin dispersion of the invention exhibits excellent adhesion properties as an adhesive between polyolefins or metal and polyolefin or as a heat-sealing material, so that the dispersion is effectively used particularly as an adhesive for packaging, an adhesive for lamination, a coating material or a primer.

A polyester aqueous dispersion having excellent properties in waterproof, weatherproof, processibility and adhesion, which provides a large allowance for controlling liquid physical properties by post treatment and is advantageous in making dry powders from the dispersion, and an efficient method for preparing the aqueous dispersion at low costs in a simple manner. The polyester aqueous dispersion comprising (i) a water-insoluble polyester and (ii) a polyester containing a sulfonate group bound to a polymer in a concentration of 0.1 to 1.5 mmol equivalents when calculated as &mdash;SO group per gram of the polymer, and method for preparing a polyester aqueous dispersion comprises a step of melt-kneading a resin composition comprising the water-insoluble polyester (i) and polyester (ii) and a step of phase inversion of adding water or a basic aqueous solution to the molten kneaded mixture thereby to shift the resin composition into the aqueous dispersion.

An aqueous dispersion of a thermoplastic resin which is capable of forming a coating exhibiting excellent water resistance, oil resistance, chemical resistance and adhesion to non-polar materials as well as its production method and its applications are provided. Aqueous dispersion, its production method, and its use

A hot melt adhesive composition exhibiting excellent adhesive strength and which is useful as an adhesive for styrene resins contains (B) tackifier and (C) ethylene/C,-C,&agr;-olefin/aromatic vinyl compound random copolymer and, in some embodiments also (A) base polymer, such as polyolefin, polar group-containing polymer and aromatic vinyl compound/conjugated diene copolymer. A low molecular weight polyolefin may also be included in all embodiments. The randon copolymer (C) may be prepared by polymerizing the &agr;-olefin and aromatic vinyl compound in the presence of a metallocene containing catalyst. In addition to excellent adhesive strength the hot melt adhesives have improved workability.

An active energy ray-curable composition comprising (A) an epoxy resin, (B) a compound selected from the group consisting of sulfonium salts and cyclopentadienyl iron compounds, (C) a compound selected from the group consisting of acrylates, methacrylates and oligomers thereof, and (D) an organic peroxide, and optionally (E) a rubber component. A hot-melt adhesive composition containing, (A) per 10 to 80 parts by weight of a base polymer, (B) 10 to 80 parts by weight of a stickiness-imparting agent which is a copolymer of a particular styrene-type monomer and a particular indene-type monomer, the molar ratio of the indene-type monomer to the styrene-type monomer being from 99/1 to 30/70, and the weight average molecular weight of said copolymer being from 300 to 5000. The hot-melt adhesive composition exhibits excellent heat-resistant adhesiveness and heat-resistant creeping property, and has a low-molecular weight and exhibits good hue.

Disclosed is a reinforcing fibrous material having an improved adhesion, which consists essentially of a surface-treated, molecularly oriented, silane-crosslinked ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene fiber, wherein when the measurement is conducted under restraint conditions by using a differential scanning calorimeter, the crosslinked polyethylene fiber has at least two crystal melting peaks (Tp) at temperatures higher by at least 10.degree. C. than the inherent crystal melting temperature (Tm) of the ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene determined as the main peak at the time of the second temperature elevation, the heat of fusion based on these crystal melting peaks (Tp) is at least 50% of the whole heat of fusion, and the sum of heat of fusion of high-temperature side peaks (Tp1) at temperatures in the range of from (TM+35).degree. C. to (Tm+120).degree. C. is at least 5% of the whole heat of fusion, and wherein the crosslinked polyethylene fiber has a surface containing at least 8 carbon atoms, especially at least oxygen atoms, per 100 oxygen atoms, as determined by the electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis.
