A fixing device includes an endless belt configured to heat a recording material, a pressure member contacting an outer circumferential surface of the endless belt to form a nip portion, and a pad. A length of the endless belt is larger than a length of the pad in a width direction of the endless belt. The pad includes a first surface forming the nip portion, a second surface facing the first surface, and a third surface connecting the first surface and the second surface in the width direction and formed in a conveyance direction of the recording material. And the third surface has a curved shape in a cross section orthogonal to the conveyance direction of the recording material.

Fixing device and image forming apparatus with nip portion that prevents belt cracking and oil leakage

A fixing device includes an endless and rotatable belt of which an inner peripheral surface is applied with lubricant, a heater, a rotatable member to rotatably contact the belt and a nip forming member in contact with the inner peripheral surface of the belt. The nip forming member includes a holding portion, an upstream sliding portion and a downstream sliding portion. The downstream and upstream sliding portions have first and second sliding surfaces sliding with the inner peripheral surface of the belt, respectively. The second sliding surface has a curved shape, and when a force applied to the belt with respect to a length of the second sliding surface is defined as w (N/mm) and a curvature radius of the second sliding surface is defined as R (mm), R/w of the second sliding surface is equal to 5 (mm/N) or larger and equal to 80 (mm/N) or less.

Fixing device

An image forming apparatus includes a heating rotary member, a pressure rotary member, a nip portion formed by the rotary members, a temperature adjustment control section controlling a temperature of the heating rotary member to a target temperature, a cleaning web removing toner adhering to the heating rotary member, and a controller selectively executing one of a cleaning mode and a non-cleaning mode. A first basis weight and a second basis weight greater than the first predetermined basis weight are set, in a job that mixedly uses recording media with the first and second basis weights. When the controller executes the non-cleaning mode, the temperature adjustment control section sets a target temperature of a recording medium with a basis weight less than or equal to the first basis weight to a temperature lower than a target temperature of the recording medium in the cleaning mode.

Fixing unit

A fixing device for fixing a toner image on a sheet includes a rotatable fixing belt; a heating roller wherein the belt is stretched and entrained around the heating roller to heat the belt; a pressing pad of resin material provided inside of the belt; a rotatable pressing member contacting an outer peripheral surface of the belt and pressing against the pad through the belt to form a nip configured to nip and feed the sheet; a supporting metal stay supporting the pad and including a planar bottom surface faced to the pad; and projected portions integrally molded with the pad and provided along a widthwise direction of the pad, the projected portions projecting and contacting to the bottom surface such that the pad is supported by the stay. A contact area between the projected portions and the bottom surface is not less than 5% and not more than 40% of the area of the bottom surface.

A fixing device includes a rotatable fixing belt, a pad, a rotatable pressing member, a pressing member driving source, an auxiliary driving roller, and a transmission mechanism for transmitting a driving force from the pressing member driving source to the auxiliary driving roller, wherein a peripheral speed of the auxiliary driving roller is faster than a peripheral speed of the pressing member, and a steering roller provided so as to stretch the fixing belt at the inner surface of the fixing belt in a position downstream of the auxiliary driving roller and upstream the pad with respect to a rotational direction of the fixing belt. The steering roller adjusts a position of the fixing belt with respect to a widthwise direction of the fixing belt by inclining the fixing belt so as to be positioned within a predetermined range.

Fixing device including an endless belt for fixing a toner image on a recording material

A toner image fixing device include a fixing belt; a heating roller training the belt around; a pressing pad of resin material provided inside the belt; a rotatable pressing member contacting the belt and pressing against the pad through the belt to form a nip for nipping and feeding the sheet; a supporting stay supporting the pad and including a surface contacting the pad, one of the pad and the stay being provided with a projection, and the other being provided with a recess engaged with the projection at an engaging position; and a separation plate provided without contact to the belt at a position opposed to the pad downstream of the nip in the sheet feeding direction. A distance between the engaging position and a downstream end of the pad is 0-35% of a length of the pad measured along the feeding direction.

An image fixing device includes a rotatable fixing belt, a pressing roller, a nip forming member, a heating roller, a cooling fan, a temperature sensor, and a controller. The nip forming member contacts an inner surface of the fixing belt to sandwich the fixing belt between the pressing roller to form a nip. The heating roller stretches the fixing belt. The cooling fan cools the fixing belt and is opposite to the belt at a position downstream of the heating roller and upstream of the nip forming member in the rotational movement direction of the fixing belt. The temperature sensor detects a temperature of the fixing belt and is provided at a position downstream of the cooling fan and upstream of the nip. The controller controls the power supplied to the heater on the basis of an output of the temperature sensor.

A fixing device including a fixing belt having a maximum curvature in a rotational direction of the fixing belt. The number of times the fixing belt is bent when a temperature of the fixing belt is equal to or lower than a glass transition temperature of the fixing belt surface material is controlled to operate within a specified range.

Image heating device

An image forming apparatus includes a fixing unit and a control unit. The fixing unit includes a rotating endless belt, a rotary member, a heating member, a driving unit, and a separation member arranged facing a circumference of the endless belt and configured to separate the recording material, after passing through the nip portion, from the endless belt. The control unit is configured to control the driving unit such that the endless belt stops along with an end of a fixing processing and rotates when a temperature of the endless belt passes a glass transition temperature of the endless belt from higher than the glass transition temperature of the endless belt to lower than the glass transition temperature of the endless belt.

Image forming apparatus

An image heating apparatus includes a fixing member, a pressing member, a fan, and a controller. When a mixed job including a first image forming step for continuously forming images on recording materials having a first basis weight and including a second image forming step, subsequent to the first image forming step, for continuously forming the images on recording materials having a second basis weight is executed, the controller switches, before a final recording material in the first image forming step completely passes through the nip, the operation of the fan to an operation of the fan for making a temperature of the pressing member higher than the temperature of the pressing member when the images are formed on the recording materials having the first basis weight.

Image heating apparatus

An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit, a fixing unit, a sheet discharge unit to stack sheets, an acquisition unit, and a controller. The fixing unit fixes a toner image formed on a sheet by the image forming unit. The acquisition unit acquires information corresponding to a maximum toner application amount per unit area of the formed toner image. The controller controls the number of image formations on the sheets per unit time based on the acquired information. The controller executes a first job with a first number of image formations on the sheets per unit time during a period from an Lth sheet to an Mth sheet in the first job, and executes a second job with a second and smaller number of image formations on the sheets per unit time during the period from the Lth to the Mth sheet in the second job.

Fixing device having a pressing mechanism that presses first and second rotatable members together

An image heating apparatus includes a coil; a belt member; a first core and a second core which are provided inside the belt member; a contact member contacting an inner surface of the belt member along a widthwise direction of the belt member; a pressing member configured to press the belt member against the contact member; a core supporting member configured to support the first and second cores; a pressing mechanism configured to generate pressure for forming a nip; and an adjusting portion, provided on the core supporting member, configured to adjust the height of each of the first core and the second core so that the height of a supporting surface configured to support the first core and the height of a supporting surface for supporting the second core are different from each other with respect to a direction perpendicular to the supporting surfaces.

An apparatus includes a coil generating magnetic flux, a rotatable heater generating heat by the flux generated from the coil, for heating an image on a recording material, magnetic cores provided outside the heater and arranged in a rotational axis direction of the heater, a first mover moving at least a part of the cores from a first position to a second position spaced from the coils, an adjuster, movable between the cores and the heater, for reducing the flux directed from the cores toward the heater, and a second mover moving, when a first core in a non-sheet-passing area of the recording material is moved to the second position by the first mover and a second core adjacent to the first core in the non-sheet-passing area is disposed at the first position to heat the image, the adjuster to a position corresponding to the second core.
