A honeycomb filter includes a honeycomb structure and plugged portions. Partition walls of the honeycomb structure are made of a partition wall material including a plurality of aggregates containing silicon carbide or silicon nitride as a main component, and a binding material at a content of 15 to 35 mass %. The binding material is made of a material in which mullite particles as reinforcing particles may be dispersed in cordierite. A thermal expansion coefficient of the partition walls at 40 to 800&#xb0; C. is 4.2&#xd7;101/K or less. When a value of a stress applied to the partition wall material at 900&#xb0; C. is normalized by the maximum value of the stress applied to the partition wall material, a percentage of a plastic deformation displacement in a total displacement at a normalized stress value of 0.9 is in a range of 0.3 to 10%.

Honeycomb filter

In the present invention, a honeycomb structure includes a joined honeycomb segment body in which a plurality of honeycomb segments are integrally joined by mutual joining surfaces via a joining material layer, and has a configuration in which a plurality of cells to become through channels of a fluid are arranged in parallel with one another along a central axis direction. The joining material layer contains, as aggregates, inorganic particles, and acicular crystal particles having a shot content ratio smaller than 10 mass %, and the acicular crystal particles include 80 mass % or more of acicular crystal particles having an average length of 20 to 500 &#x3bc;m in a long axis direction of the acicular crystal particles. As the inorganic particles, silicon carbide, cordierite, alumina, zirconia, yttria or the like can be used, and as natural acicular minerals, sepiolite, wollastonite, palygorskite or the like can be used.

Honeycomb structure

A honeycomb structure body having joining material layers of a stress relaxing function and joining strength equivalent to those of joining material layers of a conventional honeycomb structure body, and having an excellent heat shock resistance. A honeycomb structure body includes a plurality of honeycomb segments and joining material layers having a plurality of pores and joining the plurality of honeycomb segments in a state where the honeycomb segments are arranged adjacent to each other so that side surfaces of the honeycomb segments face each other. A ratio of the number of pores having a value of 1.2 or less which is obtained by dividing a maximum diameter of each of the pores by a minimum diameter of the each of the pores is 60% or more of the number of all the pores of each of the joining material layers.

Honeycomb structure body

A bonding material for a honeycomb structure comprises inorganic particles in which D90/D10 is from 10 to 500, D10 is 100 &#x3bc;m or less and D90 is 4 &#x3bc;m or more, and the D10 and D90 are the values of 10% diameter and 90% diameter from a smaller particle diameter side, respectively, in volume-based integrated fractions of a particle diameter distribution measurement by a laser diffraction/scattering method.

Bonding material for honeycomb structure and honeycomb structure utilizing the material

There is provided a bonding material composition for obtaining a joined body by unitarily joining two or more members to be joined by means of a bonding material layer, wherein the bonding material composition contains flat particles, non-flat particles, smectite-based clay, and an inorganic adhesive as main components. The bonding material composition costs little, can relax thermal stress generated in the joined body without using fibers which may do harm to a human body, and can reduce defects such as a crack and a void upon drying or a thermal treatment.

There is disclosed a bonded element manufactured from a bonding material composition being capable of contributing to the lowering of thermal expansion of a bonding material layer sufficiently to relax any thermal stress generated in a honeycomb structure and largely inhibiting the cracking of the resultant honeycomb structure as well. In a bonded element in which two or more objects to be bonded are integrated via a bonding material layer, the bonding material layer having a Young's modulus of 20% or less of that of the objects to be bonded and having an average linear thermal expansion coefficient of 70% or less of that of the objects to be bonded, the bonding material layer being prepared from a bonding material composition composed mainly of fillers and a matrix in which fillers having an average linear thermal expansion coefficient of 2.0&#xd7;10&#xb7;Kor less are contained.
