A silicon substrate with a microfluidic system that receives a sample fluid and prepares an analyte solution received by a reservoir containing a sensing surface is electrically connected to a semiconductor device. The structure includes a component for receiving a sample fluid, a component for preparing the sample fluid, a CRISPR system for cleaving a reporter species when the sample fluid contains a target sequence, a sorting component for separating the cleaved reporter species from the sample fluid and the CRISPR products, a cavity for receiving an analyte solution containing the cleaved reporter species, and a sensing surface in the cavity. The sensing surface detects electrical signals induced by reaction events in the analyte solution.

Integrated silicon platform for electronic biosensors

A substrate's embedded substrate contact electrode forms a reference voltage point. A gate insulator is spaced outwardly from the substrate and has an exposed outer surface configured for contact with a fluid analyte. A device region is intermediate the substrate and the gate insulator; source and drain regions are adjacent the device region; and a field insulator is spaced outwardly of the drain region, the source region, and the substrate away from the device region. The gate insulator and the field oxide are formed of different materials having different chemical sensitivities to the fluid analyte. The field insulator is coupled to the substrate through the field insulator capacitance. The gate insulator capacitance is much smaller than the field insulator capacitance. The embedded substrate contact electrode can be connected to a separate voltage so that the electrical potential between the substrate and the source region can be controlled.

Aspects of the invention include using a controller to control a transceiver to transmit a sensor query signal to a first sensor at a first location of one or more locations having one or more sensors, wherein the sensor query signal energizes a first power supply for the first sensor, wherein energizing the power supply causes the first sensor to perform a sensor reading at the first location and transmit to the transceiver an encoded response signal representing the sensor reading, and analyzing, using the controller, the encoded response signal to determine the sensor reading at the first location.

A device for monitoring a cell culture includes one or more electrochemical sensors configured to be positioned adjacent to or embedded within a medium of a cell culture. The one or more electrochemical sensors are configured to generate signals in accordance with the cell culture. A data storage device is configured to receive and store the signals from the one or more electrochemical sensors. A computation device is configured to analyze the signals from the one or more electrochemical sensors to determine cell activity over time using sensitivity information.
