A semiconductor device comprises an array of individually controllable image pixels arranged in a plurality of reset groups. Each of the image pixels in the array of individually controllable image pixels has a one-to-one correspondence with at least one memory cell in an array of memory cells. The semiconductor device further comprises a plurality of sub-pixel sets, wherein each sub-pixel in the plurality of sub-pixel sets is a micromirror, and wherein each of the image pixels comprises a sub-pixel set.

Spatial light modulator sub-pixel architecture and method

Disclosed embodiments comprise dynamic pulse width modulation (PWM) bit sequence selection techniques for use with video display devices. By dynamically selecting and applying a bit sequence based on the display image content and the limited dynamic range of human perception, the bit sequence used to display a given scene may be optimized in order to provide for increased bit depth or increased brightness. Generally one out of a plurality of available bit sequences would be applied to a given scene, with different bit sequences designated for displaying bright scenes and dark scenes. Alternatively, different bit sequences may be applied depending upon the amount of motion in a scene. Thus, a dynamic bit sequence selection technique may allow for a display device with increased bit depth and increased brightness.

Dynamic bit sequence selection

A method and system for controlling deformable micromirror devices are provided. In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, a display system includes multiple deformable micromirror devices, a buffer, and a controller. Each deformable micromirror device includes a plurality of micromirrors. The buffer is communicatively coupled, at a first interface speed, to each deformable micromirror device. The buffer is operable to communicate in parallel with the deformable micromirror devices. The controller is communicatively coupled, at a second interface speed, to the buffer. The controller is operable to receive a display input and, in response, generate a plurality signals each corresponding to an optical characteristic of the display input. The controller is further operable to sequentially communicate each of the plurality of signals through the buffer to a corresponding one of the deformable micromirror devices. Each deformable micromirror device receives at least a subset of the plurality of signals.

Method and system for controlling deformable micromirror devices

A system for, and method of resolving reset conflicts in a phased-reset SLM system and a projection visual display system incorporating the system or the method. In one embodiment, the system includes a reset conflict arbiter configured to receive reset instructions containing conflicts from a sequence generator and resolve the conflicts by shifting an execution time of a selected one of the reset instructions according to a conflict resolution method.

System and method for resolving reset conflicts in a phased-reset spatial light modulator system

A method of loading data into a spatial light modulator, in which a software programmable processor stores binary values for the pixels of at least a portion of the (x,y) array of a spatial light modulator. The processor stores these values in its addressable memory, and accesses them by calculating bit positions in memory words (elements), as a function of x and y and other parameters of the processor and spatial light modulator. The same concepts may be applied to reading data out of a spatial light modulator.
