The conventional radiation shielding materials are made using lead, barite and hematite ore which are either toxic, costly and are non-replinshable possessing limited functionality. In view of above, we develop a novel process for making advanced non-toxic Red Mud based functional radiation shielding materials utilizing appropriate novel matrixes like Advanced geopolymer, geopolymeric-polymeric matrix, putty, cement and phosphatic based matrix and are also compatible with conventional matrixes. The appropriate physico-chemical consolidation and or densification of red mud using advanced or conventional matrix helps in obtaining functional radiation shielding material by simultaneous and synergistic chemical reactions among various mineralogical and chemical compounds of red mud with complementary various chemical compounds present infruit peel waste especially citric acid to form nano gel material to obtain the fine 'tailored shielding powder'. The developed material has broad application spectrum from diagnostic radiation installations like diagnostic X-ray to CT scanner room.

Advanced non-toxic Red Mud based Nano gel type functional radiation shielding materials and the process thereof

The present invention relates to advanced cement free composition for concrete and panels useful in construction industry and the method of preparation thereof. Particularly the present invention relates to advanced cement free composition constituting Sea sand, Fly Ash, Seawater, NaOH and NaSiO(sodium meta silicate). More particularly the present invention relates to advanced cement free composition for concrete and panels with comprehensive strength of 15 to 30 MPa and flexural strength of 1.5-3.0 MPa.

Conventional shielding materials are based on single material either toxic lead or barium based compounds and any matrix made therefrom contains only single phased barium based compounds, thereby posing limited radiation shielding capacity. Since brine sludge, an industrial toxic waste product, generated in chloralkali industry contains multiple compounds; there is a need to provide a process which enables the preparation of multi-phase based radiation shielding materials. In view of the above, the present invention provides advanced non-toxic radiation shielding materials utilizing tailored brine sludge and a process that enables conversion of toxic elements like chromium, zinc, copper and vanadium present in brine sludge into non-toxic shielding phases, thereby enabling to convert a toxic waste material into highly value added advanced radiation shielding materials possessing homogeneous radiation shielding matrix.

Advanced non-toxic radiation shielding materials from tailored brine sludge and a process for the preparation thereof

The present invention relates to a novel multifunctional material for workability of geopolymeric system and its process thereof. The viscous characteristics in geopolymeric system are responsible for observed negligible workability of geopolymeric cement concrete system and which limits its broad application spectrum. The novel multifunctional material of the present invention prepared by digestion of siliceous agricultural waste i.e. Rice husk with aqueous alkaline materials involving simultaneous and synergistic chemical reactions among the various constituents of rice husk, aqueous alkaline compounds and optionally adding Cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) to obtain in-situ synthesis of desired nano-sized multi functional agents lignin, hemicelluloses, cellulose, sodium silicate necessary for addressing the issue of workability and also improving the engineering properties of geopolymeric system for broad application spectrum.

Multifunctional material for workability of geopolymeric system and its process thereof

The present invention provides a nano phosphatic hybrid geopolymeric corrosion resistant coating material. The tailored precursor of corrosion resistant coating material is obtained by a process involving, together dry grinding of raw materials fly ash, sodium hydroxide, rice husk, tri calcium phosphate and cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide optionally with sodium silicate, in solid powder form. The developed coating material obtained by adding water to tailored precursor contains nano sized phosphatic compounds of Cancrisilite (sodium aluminum carbonate silicate hydrate), quartz, mullite, heamatite, sodium aluminum silicate, Herschelite (sodium aluminum silicate hydrate), Sucrose, &#x3b1; D-Glucose, Native cellulose, and phenol, responsible for providing improved corrosion resistant properties and adhesion to the mild steel substrates. The geo-polymeric coating material is used as an anti-corrosive, heat resistant coating material on various materials e.g. mild steel substrates.

Brine sludge is an industrial waste generated in chloral alkali industry. The generated brine sludge waste is dumped into landfills and contains barium sulphate, calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, sodium chloride, clay, and toxic elements like chromium, zinc, copper, and vanadium, therefore posing an environmental threat. Consequently, there is an urgent need to convert toxic brine sludge waste into its non-toxic form. The present invention thus aims to achieve total utilization of this brine sludge for making functionalized brine sludge material useful for a broad application spectrum.

Functionalized brine sludge material and a process for the preparation thereof

The present invention provides a composition for advanced hybrid geopolymeric functional materials possessing very broad application spectrum ranging from cementitious materials to advanced functional materials having 'Inorganic-Organic Hybrid' matrix in contrast to the limited application of conventional geopolymeric materials having 'Inorganic matrix' only. The invention further relates to a process for the preparation of these materials. The process obviates the need of external addition of sodium silicate which is one of the costliest and main raw materials in conventional geopolymerisation processes. Interestingly, in the present invention the sodium silicate has been synthesized in situ by designing of conditions for synergistic and simultaneous mechano-chemical reactions among the selected raw materials viz. inorganic and organic wastes under alkaline environment. This results in the formation of &#x201c;Hybrid inorganic-organic frame work&#x201d; of sodium silicate, which facilitates uniform dispersion of reacting species, thus resulting in the formation of homogeneous geopolymeric matrix with improved characteristics.

Composition for advanced hybrid geopolymeric functional materials and a process for the preparation thereof

A low temperature process for making radiopac materials is disclosed. The process utilizes industrial/agricultural waste as raw materials and includes mixing 11-88% w/w of the industrial/agricultural waste materials, 11-88% w/w of an alkali or alkaline earth metal compound and 7-15% w/w of a phosphatic binder to obtain a homogenized mixture. The homogenized mixture is compressed at a pressure in the range of 100-300 Kg/cmto obtain compacted green material samples. The compacted green material samples are baked for 1-3 hours in an Air oven in the temperature range of 90-130&#xb0; C., and are sintered at a temperature in the range of 920 to 1300&#xb0; C. for a soaking period of 1-3 hours under air environment in a muffle furnace to obtain the radiopac material.
