Composite hollow fiber gas separation membranes with improved permeance and separation layer adhesion are manufactured by providing dipping a hollow fiber membrane substrate in a pre-coat layer coating composition followed by drying to thereby provide a pre-coated substrate and dipping the pre-coated substrate in a separation layer coating composition followed by drying to thereby provide the composite hollow fiber gas separation membranes. The pre-coating composition includes a first polymer dissolved in a first solvent and the separation layer composition includes a second polymer dissolved in a second solvent. The first and second polymers are the same or different, each of the first and second polymers is at least 1 wt % soluble in a same third solvent, the first and second solvents are the same or different, the first and third solvents are the same or different, and the second and third solvent are the same or different.

Coated composite hollow fiber gas separation membranes with improved permeance and separation layer adhesion

A composite fiber comprising sorbent particles (at 50 wt %) in a polymeric matrix that comprises a polymer or blend of polymers including at least one thermoplastic polymer, the extrudates being produced by thermal-induced phase separation or diffusion-induced phase separation from a dope suspension of the thermoplastic polymer, an optional solvent and the sorbent particles. The polymer or blend of polymers is able to withstand exposure to temperatures at or above 220&#xb0; C. without experiencing significant detrimental effects upon the sorbent capacity of the sorbent particles. The fiber exhibits an elongation at break of at least 5%.

Sorbent-loaded fibers for high temperature adsorption processes

A proportional solenoid-controlled fluid valve assembly having a fluid pressure balancing diaphragm. The valve assembly also includes a solenoid coil assembly having a cylindrical conduit and a magnetic orifice piece positioned within the conduit. A plunger is positioned within the conduit and is movable within the conduit between a de-actuated position and an actuated position. A pressure balancing diaphragm is provided having a top side, a bottom side, an outer annular flange portion, a U-shaped portion, and an inner annular flange terminating at a diaphragm opening, with the diaphragm being positioned within valve base with the outer annular flange portion abutting the ledge of the valve base and the U-shaped portion abutting the valve seat. A retainer is also provided having a top cylindrical upstanding portion extending through the diaphragm opening and an aperture formed in the plunger. A magnetic frame is also included for securing the valve assembly in an assembled configuration, wherein a magnetic path is formed by magnetic orifice piece, plunger and the magnetic frame and the solenoid coil is configured to be actuated such that the plunger moves towards the magnetic orifice piece, thus lifting the diaphragm and retainer and allowing pressurized media to pass from the inlet port to the outlet port.

Solenoid controlled valve assembly including a pressure balancing diaphragm

Adsorbent-loaded beads for high temperature adsorption processes

A gas separation membrane module includes a seal between a higher pressure gas and a lower pressure gas. The seal includes a compressible sealing member in between sealing surfaces. At least one of the sealing surfaces has corrosion-resistant cladding provided over either low alloy steel or high alloy steel. The cladding reduce the possibility of a seal failure due to corrosion of low alloy or high alloy steel exposed to acid gases or condensed moisture containing acid gases dissolved therein while at the same not requiring that all surfaces of the membrane module exposed to acid gases be provided with cladding.

Gas separation membrane module for reactive gas service

In a process for the separation of a stream containing carbon dioxide, water and at least one light impurity including a separation step at subambient temperature, the feed stream is compressed in a compressor comprising at least two stages to form a compressed feed stream, the compressed feed stream is purified in an adsorption unit to remove water and form a dried compressed stream, the dried compressed stream or a stream derived therefrom is cooled to a subambient temperature and separated by partial condensation and/or distillation in a separation apparatus, liquid enriched in carbon dioxide is removed from the separation apparatus, the adsorption unit is regenerated using a regeneration gas and the regeneration gas is formed by separating, by permeation in a permeation unit, the dried compressed stream or a gas derived therefrom, the permeate of the permeation unit constituting the regeneration gas.

Process and apparatus for the separation of a stream containing carbon dioxide, water and at least one light impurity including a separation step at subambient temperature

A valve assembly includes a valve base having a tubular section with a longitudinal bore formed therein, a fluid inlet port and a common port with an internal passageway therebetween. A solenoid coil is adapted to generate a magnetic flux and includes a longitudinal axis and a bore coaxial therewith. The valve assembly further includes an orifice piece positioned within the longitudinal bore of the valve base. The orifice piece includes a central passageway with a first end and a second end. A plunger is movable within the longitudinal bore between a first de-actuated position and a second actuated position.

Solenoid-actuated fluid control valve assembly

A process for separating carbon dioxide from a fluid containing carbon dioxide, NO, and at least one of oxygen, argon, and nitrogen comprises the steps of separating at least part of the fluid into a carbon dioxide enriched stream, a carbon dioxide depleted stream comprising COand at least one of oxygen, argon, and nitrogen and a NOenriched stream and recycling said NOenriched stream upstream of the separation step.

A carbon molecular sieve (CMS) membrane is made by pyrolyzing a film or hollow fiber membrane made of a polyimide polymer or copolymer essentially consisting of repeating units of dianhydride-derived units and diamine-derived units. At least 50% of the dianhydride-derived units are derived from 2,2-bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenyl) hexafluoropropane (6FDA). At least 50% of the diamine-derived units are derived from 2,5-diethyl-6-methyl-1,3-diamino benzene (DETDA).

COmay be recovered from flue gas by a hybrid system utilizing both gas separation membranes and adsorption. Purified flue gas is separated by the gas separation membrane into permeate and non-permeate streams. The permeate stream is compressed, partially condensed at a heat exchanger, and phase-separated to produce a vent gas and high purity liquid CO. The vent gas is recycled to the membrane. The non-permeate is fed to a PSA unit. The COblow-down from the PSA unit is also compressed with the permeate stream. The adsorbent in the PSA unit is regenerated with combustion air and the CO-containing combustion air is fed to a combustor for combustion with fuel and an oxidant to produce the flue gas.
