Mobile downhole tools with fairings and methods of using the same. A mobile downhole tool is introduced into a wellbore. The mobile downhole tool has a housing with a thickness sufficient to support a pressure differential between an interior surface of the housing and an exterior surface of the housing when the mobile downhole tool is disposed in the wellbore, and a fairing coupled to the exterior surface of the housing. The fairing is structurally distinct from the housing and is not connected to the interior surface of the housing. The fairing curves in a first direction that is away from the housing. The mobile downhole tool is propelled in the wellbore as the wellbore is produced such that the mobile downhole tool descends downhole against the upstream flow of a wellbore fluid.

Fairings for mobile downhole tools in producing wells

Wellbore logging apparatus include a positioning mechanism that couples one or more well logging devices included in a well logging tool to a downhole tractor. The positioning tool allows the logging tools to be moved at a different rate of travel through a wellbore compared to the rate of travel of the downhole tractor through the wellbore.

Methods and apparatus to decouple downhole tool speed from conveyance tools

Disclosed herein are systems and methods for automating a pump-down stop operation and, more particularly, example embodiments may include an automated pump-down stop system that adjusts a fluid rate and a winch speed before the target depth based on the remaining depth and line speed. An example method for automating a pump-down stop operation of a downhole tool string includes: measuring a depth of the downhole tool string, wherein the downhole tool string is held by a wireline; measuring a wireline tension; measuring a speed of the wireline; measuring a pumping rate; measuring an inclination of the downhole tool string; and regulating automatically a winch controller and a pump controller simultaneously to stop the downhole tool string at a target depth based at least on the measurements of one or more of the depth, wireline tension, speed, pumping rate, and/or inclination.

In general, in one aspect, embodiments relate to a method that includes assembling a downhole tool from a plurality of subassemblies with a robotic tool assembly disposed on a subsea tree at a sea-floor in a subsea environment. The method may also include introducing the downhole tool into a wellbore, traversing the wellbore with the downhole tool to reach one or more target depths, performing at least a wellbore operation with the downhole tool at the one or more target depths, and retrieving the downhole tool from the wellbore after performing the wellbore operation.

Sea floor automatic well intervention

A system for regulating a pump down operation may include a controller, a motor drive, a parameter estimation unit and a controller design unit. In examples, the controller may be configured to identify a difference between a downhole tension set-point to an actual downhole tension. The motor drive may be configured to adjust a line speed set point of the motor drive based at least in part on the difference from the controller to create an actual line speed from the motor drive to follow the downhole tension set-point. The parameter estimation unit may be configured to produce a fluid drag coefficient, a friction coefficient, and a line speed delay constant. The controller design unit may be configured to send one or more control gains to the controller based at least in part on the fluid drag coefficient, the friction coefficient, and the line speed delay constant.

Model based adaptive control scheme for pump down operation

The disclosure provides a formation fluid pumping method and pump, and a wellbore system that in one example includes wellbore surface equipment connected to a downhole tool including a formation fluid container having a fluid input port and a fluid output port, and a moveable piston inside the formation fluid container having two fluid chambers positioned to alternately pump a quantity of formation fluid in the formation fluid container from the fluid input port to the fluid output port. The wellbore system further includes a mechanical piston actuator having a rotary portion attached to the formation fluid container and a linear portion attached to the moveable piston, and a brushless direct current motor coupled to the rotary portion of the mechanical piston actuator and controlled to alternately rotate the rotary portion of the mechanical piston actuator in opposite directions to pump the quantity of formation fluid.

Downhole tractor control systems and methods to adjust a load of a downhole motor to drive one or more wheels of the downhole tractor are disclosed. A method to adjust a load of a downhole motor includes receiving a user input of a desired speed and torque for a plurality of motors, where the plurality of motors powering rotation of wheels of a downhole tractor. The method also includes determining a minimum actual motor speed of the plurality of motors. For at least one motor of the plurality of motors, the method includes determining a power controller output and determining a torque controller output. The method further includes adjusting a voltage source invertor based on a lesser of the power controller output and the torque controller output to modulate voltage provided to the at least one motor.

Downhole tractor control systems and methods to adjust a load of a downhole motor

A method for controlling a pump-down operation in a wellbore includes selecting a target value for downhole tension of a support cable and a recommended job speed to convey a wireline tool string down a section of the wellbore, generating a line speed signal for controlling a line speed of the support cable and a pumprate signal to control a pumprate of a hydraulic fluid in the wellbore, determining a first error between the target value for downhole tension and a measured value of the downhole tension, determining a second error between the recommended job speed and an actual line speed, and maintaining the target value for the downhole tension by simultaneously controlling the line speed and the pumprate using a value for the line speed signal and a value for the pumprate signal generated based on the first and second errors.

Method and apparatus to automate pump-down operation

Downhole tractor control systems and methods to maintain a load among multiple tractors are disclosed. A method to adjust a load among multiple tractors includes receiving first power feedback of a first downhole tractor, receiving second power feedback of a second downhole tractor, identifying an unbalance load condition when a difference between the first power feedback and the second power feedback exceeds a predetermined threshold, and adjusting, in response to identifying the unbalance load condition and based on the difference, power reference of the first downhole tractor and the second downhole tractor.
