Identifying content and authorizing sharing thereof based at least in part on extracting feature data from content to be shared and comparing this extracted feature data against a database of extracted feature data for various reference content. When the content to be shared is matched to reference content in the database, sharing may be simply rejected, or rights associated with the reference content may be inspected to facilitate determining authorization.

Identifying image content

A method for evaluating an end-user's subjective assessment of streaming media quality includes obtaining reference data characterizing the media stream, and obtaining altered data characterizing the media stream after the media stream has traversed a channel that includes a network. An objective measure of the QOS of the media stream is then determined by comparing the reference data and the altered data.

Delivery of streaming media

A media signal is controlled using a portable media content device. The media signal is received and encoded into an encoded media signal for a portable media content device. The encoded media signal is stored for playback on the portable media content device.

Transcoding media content from a personal video recorder for a portable device

Server-side determination of quality of service received by a client. Content is transmitted from the server to the client according to a protocol. During transmission, the protocol requires the client to periodically send the server statistics concerning the transmitting, e.g., lost packets, latency, or the like. The server simulates the network connection between the client and server based at least in part on the received statistics. The simulating allows the server to recreate, server-side, the content received by the client. The server may then compare what was sent to the client, versus the recreated received content, to determine a quality of service received by the client.

Server-side measurement of client-perceived quality of service

A media content is encoded at multiple bit rates to form a multi-bit-rate encoded media content, wherein the media content contains at least one segment. The multi-bit-rate encoded media content is stored to a first data storage device. An amount of disk space available on a second data storage device is determined and an encoding bit rate is selected for at least one segment that is to be transferred to a second data storage device. The encoded bit rate is based on the amount of storage space available on the second storage device. A quality can be chosen for transcoding an encoded media content to form a transcoded media content, wherein the quality is based on the at least one segment to transfer and the amount of storage space available on the second data storage space.

Encoding and transferring media content onto removable storage

A method and apparatus are provided for compressing and using a concatenative speech database in TTS systems to improve the quality of speech output generated by handheld TTS systems by allowing synthesis to occur on the client. According to one embodiment of the present invention, a G.723 encoder receives diphone waveforms, and compresses them into diphone residuals. While compressing the diphone waveforms, the encoder generates Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) coefficients. The diphone residuals, and the encoder-generated LPC coefficients are then stored in encoder-generated compressed packet.

Compressing and using a concatenative speech database in text-to-speech systems

A signal processing unit is disclosed for selectively routing an unfiltered input signal and a noise reduced version of the unfiltered input signal to an output port in response to a noise power estimate. Routing the unfiltered input signal to the output port when the noise power estimate is less than a noise floor threshold avoids degrading the information content of an input signal having a power level close to the noise floor. A first attenuation factor and a second attenuation factor can be applied to the unfiltered input signal. A method is disclosed for parsing a signal into a plurality of frames, selecting a maximum value for each frame, and averaging the maximum values to form a noise floor threshold.
