A vehicle's panoramic view system includes a non-centered real camera that captures an image of surroundings, a virtual camera, an image processing unit, and a display unit that displays a geometric form overlaid over the captured image. The image processing unit projects the captured image onto a first plane perpendicular to the real camera to correct perspective distortions resulting from the camera's non-centered position, and projects the geometric form onto a second plane perpendicular to the virtual camera to represent the geometric form without distortion on the display unit. The image processing unit finds an affine transformation between the first and second planes by delta transformation between the real and virtual cameras, and applies the affine transformation to the first plane containing the projected distortion-corrected captured image, to align a modified representation of the image with the undistorted geometric form in the second plane.

Panoramic view system for a vehicle

A device provides improved obstacle identification. A first camera acquires first vehicle image data and provides it to a processing unit. A second camera acquires and provides second vehicle image data. An image overlap region has at least a portion of the first vehicle image data and at least a portion of the second vehicle image data. The first and second vehicle image data extend over a ground plane and the image overlap region extends over an overlap region of the ground plane. The processing unit extracts first image features from the first vehicle image data and extracts second image features from the second vehicle image data. The processing unit projects the first and the second image features onto the ground plane. The processing unit produces at least one image of the surroundings, having either at least a portion of the first vehicle image data associated with the overlap region, or at least a portion of the second vehicle image data associated with the overlap region, based in part on the determination of first image features whose projections lie in the overlap region of the ground plane, and on second image features whose projections lie in the overlap region of the ground plane.

Device for providing improved obstacle identification

A surround view system includes at least at least one camera pair formed by two cameras with overlapping fields of view adapted to generate camera images with an overlapping area. The system also includes and a processing unit configured to compute surround view images including overlapping areas with respect to each camera and to extract features from the computed surround view images resulting in binary images for each overlapping area. Priority in visualization is given to the camera image of the overlapping area generated by the camera of the respective camera pair where a calculated sum of binary values within the resulting binary image is highest.
