Providing fail_over call processing services by sniffing signaling traffic, without the overhead of configuring/provisioning terminals (phones), call servers etc. According to an aspect of the present invention, the integrated device operates as a backup call server when external call servers are unavailable. In one embodiment, the integrated device checks whether a first call server, to which a call setup request is destined to, is available, and forwards the request to another call server if the first call server is unavailable. According to another aspect, the integrated device detects the access information of each terminal registering with a call server, and uses the detected information to provide responses to call setup requests when the call servers are unavailable. As a result, the IP phones in a local network can continue initiating calls even when call servers located at remote sites, become unavailable.

Enabling VoIP calls to be initiated when a call server is unavailable

The invention includes a method and apparatus providing call admission control for a wireless local area network (WLAN). A method includes extracting call signaling information from call signaling messages exchanged between a first user terminal and a second user terminal for establishing a voice call, where the second user terminal is being served by a wireless access point, and propagating a quality-of-service request toward the wireless access point which may be used by the wireless access point for determining whether or not to accept the voice call. The quality-of-service request includes at least one quality-of-service parameter determined using the extracted call signaling information. The at least one quality-of-service parameter is adapted for use by the wireless access point for determining whether or not to accept the voice call. The wireless access point then provides an indication as to whether it has accepted the voice call (in which case the voice call is completed) or whether it has rejected the voice call (in which case some other call handling may be applied to the voice call).

A method includes identifying a plurality of communication channels at a wireless device and classifying each of the communication channels into one of a plurality of groups. The method also includes scanning the communication channels in the groups. The communication channels in at least one of the groups are scanned at a different frequency than the communication channels in at least one other of the groups. In addition, the method includes updating one or more of the groups based on the scans.

A system includes an enterprise network having a call control system that manages telephony services for wireless handsets. At a remote site, a computing device establishes a secure, wireline communication session with the enterprise network. The computing device also establishes wireless, packet-based links with one or more handsets. An Integrated Communication System (ICS) with fail-over serial data connectivity is disclosed. In one aspect, an ICS may comprise a chassis including a System Switch Processor (SSP) for providing connectivity to a plurality of slots. A Serial Alarm Processor (SAP) may be operatively coupled to the ICS through one of the slots, an include at least one serial port for providing serial data connectivity. A Primary Single Board Computer (SBC) and at least one secondary SBC may be disposed in the slots. The ICS may be configured to pass control of serial data connectivity from the Primary SBC to a secondary SBC in the event of the failure of the Primary SBC. Various methods for fail-over serial data connectivity are also disclosed.

A method is provided that includes receiving a request from a communication device to establish a communication session with a mobile station, the mobile station being operable to roam between a private and a public network. The mobile station is signaled via a cellular data network that a call is being initiated for the mobile station. Signaling information may be exchanged with a voice gateway such that one or more voice circuits are established. A signaling pathway may be established between an Internet protocol private branch exchange (IP PBX) and the mobile station via the cellular data network. The establishment of the signaling pathway is substantially concurrent with the establishment of one or more of the voice circuits. One or more features associated with a private network are delivered to the mobile station during the communication session as an end user moves between the public and private networks.

A method is provided that includes receiving a request from a communication device to establish a communication session with a mobile station. The request is responded to by signaling the mobile station via a cellular data network that a call is being initiated for the mobile station. Signaling information may be exchanged with a voice gateway such that one or more voice circuits are established to accommodate voice data that may propagate between the communication device and the mobile station. A signaling pathway may be established between an Internet protocol private branch exchange (IP PBX) and the mobile station via the cellular data network. The establishment of the signaling pathway is substantially concurrent with the establishment of one or more of the voice circuits such that one or more features associated with a private network are delivered to the mobile station during the communication session.
