In general, the current application relates to degradable composite and blend materials that have accelerated degradation in water in low temperature conditions, and their various industrial, medical and consumer product uses. In some embodiments, the degradable composite composition comprises a degradable polymer mixed with discrete particles of a filler that acts to accelerate the degradation of the degradable polymer. Such materials degrade in 60 C water in less than 30 days, &#x3c;14 days, and even &#x3c;7 days. Various materials are provided that can degrade equally fast at lower temperatures, such as 50 C, or even 40 C.

Degradable composite materials and uses

Embodiments disclose a sand screen apparatus for use in a well that intersects a hydrocarbon formation. The sand screen apparatus comprises a composite, the composite having a compressed state and an expanded state. In embodiments, the composite comprises a base polymer and one or a plurality of reactive fillers where the reactive fillers react with the base polymer in the expanded state after exposure to a first trigger.

A novel oxide material (MIN-I) comprising YO; and XO, wherein Y is a tetravalent element and X is a trivalent element, wherein X/Y=O or Y/X=30 to 100 is provided. Surprisingly, MIN-I can be reversibly deswollen. MIN-I can further be combined with a polymer to produce a nanocomposite, depolymerized to produce predominantly fully exfoliated layers (MIN-2), and pillared to produce a pillared oxide material (MIN-3), analogous to MCM-36. The materials are useful in a wide range of applications, such as catalysts, thin films, membranes, and coatings.

The subject disclosure relates to apparatus and methods that are particularly suited for creating a seal in a borehole annulus. More particularly, the subject disclosure relates to a seal with enhanced sealing capability. In one embodiment the subject disclosure relates to a reinforced and permanent swellable packer device.
