A method includes receiving a light beam propagating along an optical path and operating a polarization rotator in a first state to produce an input right-hand circularly polarized beam or in a second state to produce an input left-hand circularly polarized beam. The method also includes converting, using a first diffractive element, the input right-hand circularly polarized beam into an intermediate left-hand circularly polarized beam or converting, using the first diffractive element, the input left-hand circularly polarized beam into an intermediate right-hand circularly polarized beam. The method also includes converting, using a second diffractive element, the intermediate left-hand circularly polarized beam into a right-hand circularly polarized output beam or converting, using the second diffractive element, the intermediate right-hand circularly polarized beam into a left-hand circularly polarized output beam.

Method and system for eyebox expansion in display systems

Systems and methods are disclosed for augmented reality devices with prescription lenses. An example augmented reality device may include a frame and a lens coupled to the frame. The lens may include a prescription lens configured to refract light, the prescription lens having a first index of refraction value, a waveguide encapsulated in the prescription lens, the waveguide having a second index of refraction value, and a first coating layer disposed on a first side of the waveguide, the first coating layer having a third index of refraction value. The third index of refraction value may be less than the first index of refraction value, and the first index of refraction value may be less than the second index of refraction value.

A method includes receiving a light beam propagating along an optical path, converting, using a first diffractive element, a first portion of the light beam into a first circularly polarized beam, and a second portion of the light beam into a second circularly polarized beam. The method also includes converting, using a second diffractive element, the first circularly polarized beam into a first circularly polarized output beam, and the second circularly polarized beam into a second circularly polarized output beam.

Devices, systems, and methods are provided for an ultra-short throw projector. The projector may include an illuminator having an ellipsoidal reflector, a light emitting diode (LED) positioned inside of the ellipsoidal reflector, and a Fresnel lens positioned inside of the ellipsoidal reflector. A light mixing chamber includes a housing having a channel formed therein, with the channel exposed to an exterior of the housing. A chamber is formed in the housing, and an aperture formed in the housing connects the chamber to the channel. The chamber may house an LED, with an optical member being retained within the channel. A light guide plate may be positioned on an exterior of the housing outside the channel.

A computing device executes a 'night mode' for optimizing the device display's light emission for night-time use. The device stores a dimming filter and/or a color filter to achieve a desired brightness and color temperature of the display. The dimming filter is used to set a display backlight level and to 'dim' the display data itself via alpha blending of the screen image with a grey mask. The computing device can blend the image with the grey mask in order to dim the display below system minimums. The color filter is alpha blended with each pixel in the image to reduce the luminance of blue light until the luminance is lower than that of another color of the emitted light. The proper dimming and color filters may be selected according to a desired screen brightness obtained from user input and/or from ambient light sensor data.

Night time control of brightness and blue light emission in device displays

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media are disclosed for mountable clear displays and projection systems. In one embodiment, a system may include a mirror surface and a transparent display sheet adhered to the mirror surface. The transparent display sheet may include a blue phosphor layer that absorbs light having the first wavelength and emits light having a fourth wavelength of about 460 nm, a green phosphor layer that absorbs light having the second wavelength and emits light having a fifth wavelength of about 530 nm, a red phosphor layer that absorbs light having the third wavelength and emits light having a sixth wavelength of about 625 nm, and a blue light blocking layer attached to the red phosphor layer of the transparent display sheet, the blue light blocking layer configured to absorb blue light passing through the transparent display sheet.

Mountable clear displays and projection systems

The disclosure pertains to aligning an electronic display or light reflected from the electronic display relative to a position of a user (i.e., viewer), and thus enhancing an overall perceived brightness, contrast ratio, and viewing angle performance of an electronic display (e.g., a specular reflective display) irrespective of illumination conditions (e.g., sunlight, airplane lighting, and overhead lamps). In some embodiments, an electronic device may determine user position data for a position of a user with respect to the electronic display. For example, the electronic device may capture images of the user using one or more image sensors. The user position data may then be processed by the electronic device to generate signals which may modify display characteristics of the electronic display to align an electronic display or light reflected from the electronic display relative to the position of the user.
