Aspects relating to data transmission are described herein. In an implementation, in a method for data transmission, a tunneling protocol header is appended to a payload to obtain an encapsulated data packet, and at least one field is modified in the tunneling protocol header to indicate at least one of an access network () and a core network () for transmitting the encapsulated data packet, and the access network () and the core network () belong to different communication networks (). Further, based on the tunneling protocol header, the encapsulated data packet is delivered to a routing unit for transmission.

Data transmission

A broadcast manager identifies a time interval that encompasses paging windows for a plurality of user equipment. The plurality of user equipment operate according to a plurality of discontinuous reception cycles that include sleep intervals separated by the paging windows. The broadcast manager generates messages for wireless transmission to the plurality of user equipment in corresponding paging windows during the time interval. The messages include information indicating a transmission time at which the plurality of user equipment are to receive broadcast or multicast data. The transmission time is subsequent to the time interval.

Method and apparatus for query selection and admission (QSA) optimization for IoT and other applications

Aspects relating to managing flow aggregation and routing for a multi-connectivity client device are described herein. In an implementation, a method for managing flow aggregation and routing for the client device includes establishing connection with a network communication engine based on connection parameters. The method further includes exchanging communication capabilities of the client device and a multi-access bearer proxy, with the network communication engine through a predefined communication protocol. The method further includes negotiating a set of communication standards for managing flow aggregation and routing of data packets, with the network communication engine based on the exchanged communication capabilities, where the set of communication standards comprises at least one flow aggregation and routing protocol.

Flow aggregation and routing for multi-connectivity client devices

A cellular-WLAN integration capability is presented herein. The cellular-WLAN integration capability provides an integration of a cellular network and a WLAN network that supports more efficient routing of downlink and uplink bearer traffic via cooperation of the cellular and WiFi interfaces in both the radio access network and at the end user device. The cellular-WLAN integration capability provides an integration of a cellular network and a WLAN network in which downlink bearer transmissions to an end user device may be selectively distributed between the cellular and WLAN networks and, similarly, uplink bearer transmissions from an end user device may be selectively distributed between the cellular and WLAN networks. The cellular-WLAN integration capability provides an integration of a cellular network and a WiFi network that tends to increase capacity for downlink bearer traffic while providing a reliable and efficient path for uplink bearer traffic.

A gateway network element includes a memory and at least one processor. The memory is configured to store a program routine or module. The at least one processor is configured, by executing the program routine or module, to: map a first multi-path transport control protocol (MPTCP) flow to a first evolved packet system (EPS) bearer associated with a first serving base station for the user; map a second MPTCP flow to a second EPS bearer associated with a WiFi access point for the user, each of the first and second MPTCP flows corresponding to a same MPTCP connection for an application; output the first MPTCP flow on the first EPS bearer for delivery to the user through the first serving base station; and output the second MPTCP flow on the second EPS bearer for delivery to the user through the WiFi access point.

A radio access network element includes a base station configured to: allocate, based on received radio link measurement information, at least a first portion of downlink packet data convergence protocol (PDCP) packets received at the base station for delivery to a user equipment over a wireless local area network (WLAN) link between a WLAN access point and the user equipment, the received radio link measurement information being indicative of at least one of a WLAN link quality and a loading of the WLAN link; and output the first portion of the received downlink PDCP packets to the WLAN access point for delivery to the user equipment over the WLAN link.

A controller in a wireless communication system includes a transceiver to receive channel activity reports from a first node and a plurality of second nodes that are connected to the first node. The first node supports wireless communication over one or more first channels of a licensed frequency band and second channels of an unlicensed frequency band. The controller also includes a processor to allocate a subset of the second channels to the first node and the plurality of second nodes based on the channel activity reports.

Extending a wireless coverage area in an unlicensed frequency band of a small cell using remote radio heads

Successfully decoded data received from a mobile terminal as well as the transmission format of that data is relayed over the backhaul from a base station receiver that successfully decoded the mobile terminal's transmission to the base stations in the mobile terminal's active set that presumably were unable to decode the mobile terminal's transmission due to inadequate signal-to-noise ratio. A base station that receives this transmission from the relaying base station that did successfully decode and demodulate the mobile terminal's transmission is then able to reconstruct the data and subtract it from the total interference, thereby increasing the signal-to-noise ratio at this base station for its in-cell processing.

Method to control the effects of out-of-cell interference in a wireless cellular system using backhaul transmission of decoded data and formats

A method is provided a wireless system for providing small 'guard' cells in a heterogeneous network at locations proximate to privately-maintained HeNB (or femto) cells in the heterogeneous network. More particularly, the methodology of the invention addresses the problem of a mobile user in a heterogeneous network located nearby to a privately maintained HeNB cell in the heterogeneous network, and the inherent interference created for the HeNB cell by the necessity of the mobile user having to transmit and receive communications from a distant public macro eNB. By deploying small public 'guard' cells in the macro cell proximate to the private HeNB cells, such a public mobile terminal is enabled to communicate with the public small cell at generally lower power than would have been necessary for communication with the distant macro eNB, with a resulting reduction in interference for the nearby HeNB cell. The FL interference between the macro cell and the HeNBs is also mitigated.

Method and apparatus for interference management in heterogenous networks

A local gateway and router device is configured to route uplink IP packets from a base station to a network element of a wireless local area network (WLAN) by configuring an IP route for the uplink IP packets based on a source IP address of the uplink IP packets. The method includes receiving device parameters and uplink parameters from a first communication device and at least one second communication device, respectively. Further, based on the device parameters and the uplink parameters, transmission format of a D2D communication link for allowing D2D communication between the first communication device and the at least one second communication device is determined. Further, an uplink transmit grant and an uplink listen grant are transmitted to the first communication device and the at least one second communication device, respectively, based on the determination, wherein the uplink transmit grant and the uplink listen grant indicate at least the transmission format and time of transmission on the D2D communication link to the first communication device and the at least one second communication device.

Methods and apparatuses for controlling and scheduling device-to-device communications

Example embodiments are directed to a method including transmitting, by a small cell, a pilot signal to a user equipment (UE) based on a first training signal received from the UE, and receiving, by the small cell, a second training signal from the UE. The second training signal is offset by a time based on the pilot signal transmitted by the small cell. The time offset represents a difference in time between the UE receiving a reference signal transmitted by a macro cell and the UE receiving the pilot signal transmitted by the small cell. The small cell adjusts a local reference timing based on the second training signal.
