This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for an internet of things (IoT) device. In some implementations, the IoT device can select an operating role for the first IoT device in a local network. The operating role may be selected from between an endpoint role and a relay role. The operating role may be dynamically selected by the first IoT device based whether the relay role would enhance connectivity for a client device that is within a wireless range of the first IoT device. The IoT device may participate in a self-organizing network (SON) and may coordinate with other devices in the SON to enhance wireless coverage for the client device based on a position of the client device relative to the one or more IoT devices.

Dynamic operating roles for internet of things (IoT) devices in a network

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for access point (AP) steering or frequency band steering based on a location of a station (STA). In some aspects, an AP may determine the location of the STA based on timing information and may steer the STA based on the location. To obtain the timing information, the AP may exchange fine timing measurement (FTM) frames with the STA. The AP may determine a distance between itself and the STA based on the timing information. The AP also may obtain distance information from other APs. Using the distance between itself and the STA, as well as the distance information from other APs, the AP may determine a location of the STA and steer the STA based on its location. The AP may steer the STA to a different frequency band of the same AP or to different AP altogether.

Location aware steering using fine timing measurement (FTM) frames in a wireless local area network (WLAN)

This disclosure provides methods, apparatuses and systems for placing a range extender (RE) based on a distance between the RE and an access point (AP). An RE may determine a distance between the RE and AP based on round trip timing (RTT) information. In some aspects, the RE may exchange fine timing measurement (FTM) frames with the AP. The RE may determine a distance between itself and the AP based on the RTT information. Based on the distance between the RE and AP, the RE may provide a coarse placement indicator for improving the RE's location. The RE also may determine a signal strength or channel state information (CSI) with respect to the AP. Based on the signal strength or the CSI, the RE may provide a fine placement indicator indicating the RE may be placed nearer or further from the AP, or remain at its current location.

Methods, systems, and devices for steering in mesh networks by a serving device are described. The method may include determining that a client device within a range of the serving device is eligible for steering, where the client device is outside a set of one or more trigger client devices, requesting, based on the determination, a radio resource management report from at least one trigger client device of the set of one or more trigger client devices, receiving the radio resource management report from the at least one trigger client device of the set of one or more trigger client devices, and performing a steering operation of the client device from the serving device to a target device based on the radio resource management report from the at least one trigger client device.

Trigger-client based client steering in mesh networks

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable media, for steering a wireless device (such as a client station (STA)) in a network having multiple access points (APs). In some aspects, a processor at a first AP may monitor a traffic flow associated with the wireless device. The processor may determine that the wireless device is to be steered, based, at least in part, on the monitored traffic flow. The processor may generate a steering ranking list based on the profile of the wireless device. And the processor may selectively steer the wireless device to a different wireless association in the multi-AP network based on the steering ranking list.

Dynamic operating roles for internet of things (IOT) devices in a network

A location aware, self-locating access point can provide a wireless link through a wireless network to a wireless device. If the wireless link bandwidth is less than a target bandwidth for the wireless device, then the location aware, self-locating access point can move itself to a new operating location that provides an increased wireless link bandwidth. If a second wireless device is added to the wireless network, then the new operating location is selected to provide an increased link bandwidth for both wireless devices. In one embodiment, the wireless devices in the wireless network can be prioritized so that the new operating location increases the wireless link bandwidth for the wireless device with a higher priority.

Location aware self-locating access point

The disclosure relates to sharing real-time multimedia content. The method may include identifying an application for sharing by a first device, discovering one or more second devices by the first device, independent of a technology or a platform of the devices, applying communication protocols and creating an association between the first device and the one or more second devices, and determining multimedia capabilities of the one or more second devices. Furthermore, such an example method may include selecting at least a portion of the screen of a first device for sharing based at least on the determined multimedia capabilities of the second devices, computing application associated performance parameters based at least on a type of content and transmitting the selected portion of the screen of the first device to the one or more second devices over the wireless connection.

Method and apparatus for real-time sharing of multimedia content between wireless devices

An indication of a configuration request for an electronic device is received. An indication of an access request for the electronic device is received after receiving the indication of the configuration request. The indication of the access request comprises biometric data. The biometric data is validated against previously captured biometric data. If the biometric data is valid based, at least in part, on said validation of the biometric data, a user profile associated with the biometric data is accessed and access to the electronic device is authorized in accordance with the user profile. If the biometric data is not valid based, at least in part, on said validation of the biometric data, a notification that an unauthorized access has been attempted is generated and transmitted.
