A gas turbine engine including a core air passage, a combustor, and a steam line. The combustor is located in the core air passage and combusts hydrogen fuel producing combustion gases. The steam line is fluidly coupled to the core air passage at a position downstream of the combustor to receive a portion of the combustion gases. A conduit thermally coupled to an external surface of an aircraft may be fluidly coupled to the steam line to receive the combustion gases and to heat the external surface. The gas turbine engine may also include a water vapor condenser fluidly connected to the steam line to receive the combustion gases and to condense the water vapor of the combustion gases. At least one nozzle may be fluidly coupled to the water vapor condenser to inject the condensed water into the core air passage.

Ice protection systems for aircraft fueled by hydrogen

A self-cleaning conduit for a hydrocarbon fluid. The conduit includes a tube and a mesh. The tube has an interior surface defining a flow passage for the hydrocarbon fluid. The mesh is positioned within the flow passage to abut the interior surface and movable along the interior surface to break-up deposits on the interior surface. The mesh is characterized by a mesh activation parameter (MAP) from one ten thousandths to six tenths.

A self-cleaning conduit for a hydrocarbon fluid. The conduit includes a tube and a movable sleeve. The tube has an interior surface defining a flow passage for the hydrocarbon fluid. The movable sleeve is positioned within the flow passage to abut the interior surface and is movable along the interior surface in response to a change in an operating characteristic of the conduit to break-up deposits on the interior surface.

The turbofan engine includes a fan; a turbomachine operably coupled to the fan for driving the fan, wherein the turbomachine, the fan, or both include an engine component; a heat source; and a heat transfer system configured to reduce ice buildup or ice formation in the engine component, the heat transfer system in communication with the heat source, the heat transfer system comprising: a first heat transfer component in communication with the heat source; and a second heat transfer component that extends from the first heat transfer component to or through the engine component, wherein the first heat transfer component comprises one of a heat pipe or a graphene rod, and wherein the second heat transfer component comprises the other of the heat pipe or the graphene rod.

A resonant sensor probe assembly includes a substrate formed from one or more dielectric materials and free-standing electrodes coupled with the substrate. The free-standing electrodes are configured to be placed into the fluid and to generate an electric field between the free-standing electrodes. A controller measures an impedance response of the sensor to the fluid between the electrodes to determine an aging effect of the sensor.

A locomotive system is provided that includes a platform, plural wheel-axle sets operably coupled to the platform, a reservoir attached to the platform and configured to hold a fluid, and a resonant sensor probe assembly coupled to the reservoir. The sensor probe assembly includes a substrate formed from one or more dielectric materials and free-standing electrodes coupled with the substrate. The free-standing electrodes are configured to be placed into the fluid, to generate an electric field between the free-standing electrodes, and to measure an impedance response of the sensor to the fluid between the electrodes.

Vehicle system with sensor probe assembly for monitoring oil health

A system includes a sensor that may measure one or more engine oil parameters to assess engine oil health of an engine and a processor communicatively coupled to the sensor and that may receive a signal from the sensor. The signal is representative of a real-time measurement of the one or more engine oil parameters. The processor may also estimate the one or more engine oil parameters over time via an adaptive predictive model associated with the one or more engine oil parameters to generate estimated data and reconcile the real-time measurement and the estimated data to generate an integrated engine oil degradation model and predict engine oil remaining useful life based on the integrated engine oil degradation model and one or more condemn limits associated with the one or more engine oil parameters.
