A broadcast manager identifies a time interval that encompasses paging windows for a plurality of user equipment. The plurality of user equipment operate according to a plurality of discontinuous reception cycles that include sleep intervals separated by the paging windows. The broadcast manager generates messages for wireless transmission to the plurality of user equipment in corresponding paging windows during the time interval. The messages include information indicating a transmission time at which the plurality of user equipment are to receive broadcast or multicast data. The transmission time is subsequent to the time interval.

Various exemplary embodiments relate to a method for determining whether to admit a query in a network, the method including determining a load for a network element type based on an adaptive history for that network element type; determining a cost of admitting the query based on the relative load that the query generates accounting for the amount of traffic the network element has admitted in the past; decreasing a total cost of all queries that can be budgeted during a subsequent interval when the change in load is within a specified range; increasing the total cost of all queries that can be budgeted during a subsequent interval when the change in load is below a threshold; and adding the query to a data structure which keeps track of potentially admittable queries.

Method and apparatus for query selection and admission (QSA) optimization for IoT and other applications

An agent is configured to receive queries from an application server in a communication network. The queries are directed to one or more devices in the communication network. The agent selects a communication path for a device from a plurality of communication paths from the application server to the device. The communication path is selected based on a data size that is to be sent to the device as part of the query, a number of devices that are to receive the query, or a combination thereof. The agent transmits the query via the selected communication path. The communication path can be selected based on one or more of a time criticality of the query, a subscription class of a user of the device, a category of a type of the device, an operator-defined influence factor, network conditions along the communication path, a broadcast flag in the query, or a combination thereof.

Selecting communication paths for application server queries of devices

A service capability exposure function (SCEF) receives a short message service (SMS) message associated with a user equipment. The SCEF identifies a destination for the SMS message on the basis of a mapping between a unique identifier of the user equipment and an external identifier of the user equipment. The SCEF transmits the SMS message towards the destination. Receiving the SMS message and transmitting the SMS message are performed without establishing a packet data network (PDN) session for conveying the SMS message. A mobility management entity (MME) receives the SMS message and identifies the destination for the SMS message on the basis of a unique identifier of the user equipment included in the SMS message. The MME transmits the SMS message towards the destination.

Simplified short message service (SMS) procedure for communication with internet of things devices

A method includes receiving at least one current network condition factor (NCF), each current NCF indicating a level of congestion of a corresponding network. The method determines that there is an autonomous report to be transmitted and in response determines a policy entry of a policy used for autonomous reporting based on matching values of one or more input parameters related to the autonomous report to values of one or more input parameters of the policy entry. A reference NCF for a first network is determined from the corresponding policy entry. The method then determines whether to request to transmit the autonomous report on the first network based on a comparison of the reference NCF for the first network and the current NCF of the first network.

The method further provides selection of another wireless element for service at a wireless unit, using a current wireless element. Method of transferring call transition messages between network controllers of different radio technologies

Methods and systems for managing system resources in a data transmission system are disclosed herein. An adaptive packet inactivity timer can be associated with the data transmission system, wherein the adaptive packet inactivity timer dynamically changes a behavior thereof based on one or more customer attributes, such as, for example, of quality of service (QoS) level. The customer attribute is linked to a plurality of timer parameters that define the behavior of the adaptive packet inactivity timer for management of the data transmission system. Additionally, the customer attributes can be assigned to a customer based on a contract level associated with the customer, or based on an application type intended for use with the customer contract.

Method and apparatus for providing distinctive levels of access to resources on a high-speed wireless packet data network

A wireless communication network is disclosed comprising a base station system, a switching system, and a transport network. The transport network comprises a conventional signaling network configured to transport call signaling and a bearer network configured to transport user communications. The bearer network also transports call signaling, as special connections are established and a portion of the capacity of the special connections are reserved for transporting call signaling. In response to receiving call signaling from a mobile wireless device or a packet data network, the base station system or the switching system determines if the call signaling is for a low latency service. If the call signaling is for a low latency service, then the base station system or the switching system forwards the call signaling over the special connection. If not, then the base station system or the switching system transmits the call signaling over the conventional signaling network.

The method of compressing a text message for transmission may include parsing text strings and encoding numerical values with a binary representation and analyzing values of the text strings and populating a session specific codebook with partial strings from the values. The method of compressing a message for transmission may also include parsing the message with a template and generating at least one substring to be transmitted; parsing the at least one substring with entries in a session specific codebook and generating a first part of the compressed message; populating the session specific codebook with entries for unknown field values; parsing any unmatched substrings with entries from a first static dictionary and generating a second part of the compressed message; parsing any still unmatched substrings with entries from a second static dictionary and generating a third part of the compressed message; compressing a remainder of the substrings with a compression algorithm; and combining the first part, the second part, and the third part of the compressed message to obtain a compressed message for transmission.

Protocol message compression in a wireless communications system

The present invention permits the transmission of variable size PDUs using a Hierarchical Sequence Numbering Space approach that supports ARQ protocols in a variable transmission rate environment. Some of the key attributes of this scheme are: (1) Support for arbitrarily variable PDU sizes; (2) Variable length sequence numbers in protocol headers; (3) Variable depth sequence numbers in protocol headers; (4) Dynamic sequence number context to minimize the size of sequence numbers transmitted in PDUs; (5) Protocol control schemes to coordinate and communicate sequence number space information between peer protocol entities; and (6) Data structures and approaches for the efficient implementation of Hierarchical Sequence Number Space schemes.

A code division multiple access system method and apparatus provides for allocation of increased bandwidth to a requesting mobile station. An access controller receives a data burst request (from either a requesting mobile station or from an external network already in connection with the mobile station) requesting a first data rate in excess of the basic data rate B allocated to a mobile station of a first cell. The access controller determines an increased data rate which is to be granted to said mobile station without causing excessive interference at said first cell and at least one adjacent cell and transmits a data burst assignment to a base station of said first cell indicating the increased data rate which has been granted to said mobile station. In another feature, the access controller processes a data burst request received from a mobile station involved in a soft handoff between multiple base stations and negotiates with those base stations for an increased data rate which may be granted to the requesting mobile station. One feature enables additional interactions to further refine the allocation process. A variety of system architectures are also described.
