A light emitter is disclosed herein. An embodiment of the light emitter comprises a substrate having a substrate surface; a light emitting diode located on the substrate surface; an encapsulant located on the substrate surface and encapsulating the light emitting diode; and a reflector cup attached to the substrate, the reflector cup having a reflector cup first side and a reflector cup second side with a hole extending between the reflector cup first side and the reflector cup second side, wherein the reflector cup first side is attached to the substrate surface so that the hole in the reflector cup first side encompasses the light emitting diode.

Light emitter

A light source and a method for operating the same are disclosed. The light source includes a light emitter and a controller. The light emitter generates light in response to a control signal coupled thereto. The light emitter is characterized by an age related to the amount of light that has been cumulatively generated by the light emitter, the generated light for a given control signal changing with the age. The controller measures the age of the light emitter and generates the control signal based on the desired light intensity and the measured age of the light emitter. In one embodiment, the controller stores an age value for the light emitter, and the controller determines the control signal in response to an input signal specifying a desired light intensity from the light emitter, the controller updating the age value each time the control signal is determined.

Color management system

A New Phosphor-converted LED Device ('NPCLD') is disclosed. The NPCLD may include a lens over a phosphor body, in which the lens and the phosphor body each have a substantially convex upper surface. The NPCLD may alternatively include first and second lenses, the first lens having a substantially flat interface with a phosphor body.

Phosphor-converted LED devices having improved light distribution uniformity

Light is emitted from a light emitting device. The light emitted from the light emitting device is combined with light from a first type of phosphor and a second type of phosphor. The first type of phosphor and the second type of phosphor are within an epoxy placed over the light emitting device. The first type of phosphor, when excited, emits light of a first color. The second type of phosphor, when excited, emits light of a second color. The first color and the second color are different.

Light emitting diode

A flash module has a first light-emitting diode ('LED') optically coupled to a first lens having a first viewing angle, and a second LED optically coupled to a second lens having a second viewing angle. The second viewing angle is greater than the first viewing angle. A first control signal line coupled to the first LED allows selectively activating the first LED. A second control signal line coupled to the second LED activates the second LED.

Light-emitting diode module for flash and auto-focus application

Illumination apparatus includes a support structure, at least one light emitting element, and a heat sink thermally coupled to the light emitting element. The light emitting element and heat sink are moveable in relation to the support structure. An actuator system moves the at least one light emitting element and the heat sink with respect to the support structure.

Illumination apparatus and method

A light source is disclosed. The light source has a light-emitting chip that includes an LED that generates light in an active region thereof. The LED emits a light signal in a forward direction, and infrared radiation generated in the active region is emitted in a side direction in the form of a first infrared signal. The first light signal is determined by a first drive signal coupled to the LED. The light source also includes an infrared detector positioned to collect a portion of the infrared signal. The infrared detector generates a heat signal indicative of the amount of infrared radiation detected. A controller generates the drive signal so as to maintain the heat signal at a first target value. In light sources having LEDs that emit in different spectral ranges, the infrared detectors can all detect heat in the same spectral range.

Light source utilizing an infrared sensor to maintain brightness and color of an LED device

A LED that includes a light emitter that emits light of a first wavelength and a phosphor layer that converts a portion of that light to light of a second wavelength is disclosed. The phosphor layer includes a powdered phosphor suspended in a photo-curable medium that sets upon exposure to light of a curing wavelength. The phosphor layer can also include a thixotropic agent that reduces the rate at which the powdered phosphor settles in the medium prior to the medium being exposed to light of the curing wavelength. The photo-curable medium preferably includes a photo-curable epoxy that cures in a time that is short compared to the settling time of the phosphor powder in the medium.
