In Chemical formula 1, X and Y are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a halogen, and a C1 through C5 fluoroalkyl, provided that at least one of X and Y is selected from the group consisting of a halogen and a C1 through C5 fluoroalkyl. The rechargeable lithium battery has a suppressed volume expansion characteristic due to a high-capacity negative active material, and has excellent reliability and cycle-life characteristics.
