A framework for generating a semantic interpretation of natural language input includes an interpreter, a first set of types, and a second set of types. The interpreter is adapted to mediate between a client application and one or more analysis engines to produce interpretations of the natural language input that are valid for the client application. The first set of types is adapted to define interactions between the interpreter and the one or more analysis engines. The second set of types is adapted to define interactions between the interpreter and the client application.

Semantic framework for natural language programming

User input defines transmission filter rules to be met when sending an error report to a support provider. User input also defines collection filter rules to be met when including failure data within an error report. Error reports corresponding to crash failures at clients are filtered with the transmission filter rules to determine which of the error reports to send to the support provider, and each error report to be sent to the support provider is further filtered to remove any failure data that fails to satisfy the collection filter rules. Each error report that satisfies the transmission filter rules, along with the failure data satisfying the collection filter rules, is sent to the support provider for analysis. Standard and or custom failure responses corresponding to the failures at the clients may be retrieved and sent to the clients in accordance with the collection filter rules.

Controlling software failure data reporting and responses

A software development tool for programming natural language software applications is described. The software development tool includes a programming language and a compiler. The programming language has a set of programming constructs for facilitating natural language programming. The compiler is adapted to take a software program containing instances of the set of programming constructs and to generate a software application.

A set of lexical semantic categories is selected to model content of the natural language input. A methodology associates content of the natural language input to one or more categories of the set of lexical semantic categories.

Resolvable types define abstract representations of linguistic elements and interrelationships between linguistic elements of a natural language input. Resolution semantics define procedural rules for resolving validity of the resolvable types in a natural language enabled software application.

A method and apparatus for analyzing and debugging natural language parses is provided. An input sentence is received and parsed by a parsing engine. A table of constituents is retrieved from the parsing engine and a grid tree is drawn representing the input sentence. Nodes of the tree, or connecting points, appear at intersections of the tree 'branches.' Once the grid has been drawn, the first syntactically correct parse of the sentence is mapped to the grid in a tree-like manner (the 'parse tree'). Input is then received for selecting one of several graphical buttons, for selecting a node that is in the parse tree, for selecting a node that is not in the parse tree, or for selecting options from one of several &#x201c;pull-down&#x201d; menus. If a connecting point that is not contained in the parse tree is selected, a group of menu options may be displayed adjacent to the selected connecting point. The user may select menu options for displaying successful rules applied at the connecting point, or for displaying unattempted and failed rules for the connecting point. If a connecting point that is contained in the parse tree (i.e. a constituent was formed at the connecting point) is selected, a second group of menu options may be displayed adjacent to the selected connecting point. The menu options may include displaying the name of the connecting point and the name of the rule that was applied at the connecting point to form the constituent.

Method and apparatus for analyzing and debugging natural language parses

A linguistic object model is adapted to model semantic elements of a natural language. The linguistic object model includes a set of abstract representations of semantic elements of an utterance. Each abstract representation in the set corresponds to a natural language type that is independent of any particular language.
