An electrophysiology catheter with a distal electrode assembly having covered spine carrying a plurality of microelectrodes. One or more spines have preformed configurations including at least a first portion with a first curvature and a second portion with a second curvature, and may include a linear portion. The linear portion may be between the first and second portions. The linear portion may be distal of the first and second portions. One or more spines have a narrower portion so that different portions of the spine can have different flexibility with a degree of independence in flexibility from adjacent portions.

Catheter with electrode spine assembly having preformed configurations for improved tissue contact

A catheter adapted or high density mapping and/or ablation of tissue surface has a distal electrode matrix having a plurality of spines arranged in parallel configuration on which a multitude of electrodes are carried in a grid formation for providing uniformity and predictability in electrode placement on the tissue surface. The matrix can be dragged against the tissue surface upon deflection (and/or release of the deflection) of the catheter. The spines generally maintain their parallel configuration and the multitude of electrodes generally maintain their predetermined relative spacing in the grid formation as the matrix is dragged across the tissue surface in providing very high density mapping signals. The spines may have free distal ends, or distal ends that are joined to form loops for maintaining the spines in parallel configuration.

Catheter with high density electrode spine array

A spine that may be used in the electrode assembly of an electrophysiologic catheter having controlled flexibility. The spine may have a flexible core that extends through a length of the spine, a polymeric cover and a plurality of electrodes, each having at least one lead, distributed longitudinally along the spine. An amount of material forming the spine may be adjusted longitudinally along the spine to compensate for changes in flexibility to the spine caused by varying numbers of electrode leads present at different relative longitudinal positions along the spine.

Electrode assembly having spines with controlled flexibility

A catheter with basket-shaped electrode assembly with spines configured for hyper-flexing in a predetermined, predictable manner when a compressive force acts on the assembly from either its distal end or its proximal end. At least one spine has at least one region of greater (or hyper) flexibility that allows the electrode assembly to deform, for example, compress, for absorbing and dampening excessive force that may otherwise cause damage or injury to tissue wall in contact with the assembly, without compromising the structure and stiffness of the remaining regions of the spine, including its distal and proximal regions. The one or more regions of greater flexibility in the spine allow the spine to flex into a generally V-shape configuration or a generally U-shape configuration.

Basket catheter with improved spine flexibility

An electrophysiology catheter with a distal electrode assembly having covered spine carrying a plurality of microelectrodes. The spines have nonconductive covers that are reinforced with tensile members, e.g., wires or fibers, that extend (or have portions that extend) longitudinally so as to minimize any elongation of the covers and the microelectrodes carried thereon. The tensile members may also have a length greater than the length of the spines so the proximal portions extend proximally from the spines, through the catheter and at least into the control handle for actuation by an operator for deflecting and moving the spines, like 'fingers.'

Catheter with increased electrode density spine assembly having reinforced spine covers

This disclosure is directed to a catheter having a basket-shaped electrode assembly with a high electrode density. The basket-shaped electrode assembly may have a plurality of spines, such as up to twelve, each with a plurality of electrodes, such as up to sixteen. The distal ends of the plurality of spines are joined at a distal hub, all of which are fashioned from a single piece of superelastic material.

This disclosure is directed to a catheter having an asymmetric basket-shaped electrode assembly at the distal end of the catheter body formed from a plurality of spines with electrodes. The plurality of spines are radially distributed across a first circumferential portion. One or more counter spines are radially distributed across a remaining second circumferential portion. Diagnostic electrodes are arrayed across the spines, while the counter spines may have one or more reference electrodes.
