The present invention relates to an apparatus for treating skin by means of intense pulsed light (IPL). Such apparatus may be used for the treatment of, for example, cosmetic purposes such as hair depilation or dermatological treatment of skin conditions such as acne or rosacea. The present invention provides an improved apparatus that can be used by a non-medical practitioner and comprises a light source comprising a light emitting element for transmitting light energy to the skin and a charge storage device for discharging an energy dose to the light emitting element. There is further provided at least one sensor for measuring a parameter of the skin and a control system configured to determine the treatment energy dose to be delivered. This treatment energy dose is de-rived using the sensor measurement and means of reduction in unwanted time delay associated with charging or discharging of the charge storage device in sole dependence on the current or most recently measured skin parameter.

Skin treatment apparatus utilising intense pulsed light (IPL)

The present invention relates to a light emitting device for providing dermatological treatment. The present invention comprises a housing structure for housing a light emitting source, a fan and a duct. The light emitting source is arranged to emit light energy to external of the device and the fan is configured for directing air heated by operation of the light emitting source into the duct. The duct is arranged to direct heated air in an airstream pathway from an outlet port of a distal end of the duct and through an aperture in the housing structure where the housing structure and the duct are relatively arranged such that no part of the housing structure extends into the air stream pathway in order to minimise heat exchange from the heated air to the housing structure.

Apparatus for dermatological treatment

The present invention relates to a dermatological treatment apparatus. Such dermatological treatments include but are not limited to hair removal, treatment of acne and lesions and also skin rejuvenation. The apparatus comprises a housing; a light emitting source provided in the housing arranged to emit light energy along an energy pathway to external of the device; and a filter arrangement positioned in the energy pathway having at least a first and a second light energy filtering portion together combining to span across the energy pathway for filtering the light energy passing to external of the device.

The apparatus includes a source of treatment radiation which is arranged to generate radiation at one of a plurality of radiation parameters (such as power levels), a control unit and a base unit. The control unit is arranged to removably dock with the base unit and includes a sensor which can sense one of a plurality of skin parameters, and an actuator for enabling a user to interface with the control unit. The control unit operates in a sensing mode, in which the control unit is undocked from the base unit to sense a parameter of skin to be treated (such as skin tone), and a control mode in which the control unit is docked to the docking unit and is arranged to select the power level of the radiation generated by the source.
