Polymeric dispersants are disclosed that include an acrylic backbone at least one pendantly attached imide group, wherein the carbonyl of the imide are chemically bonded to a fused aromatic ring. The aromatic ring can be substituted with various electron withdrawing or releasing groups. Desirably dispersant also includes solvent-solubilising chains of polyether, polyester, polyacrylate, and or polyolefin.

Aromatic dispersant composition

The present invention relates to a composition containing a particulate solid, a polar or non-polar organic medium, and a polymer chain having at least one fused aromatic imide pendant group. The invention further provides compositions for coatings, inks, toners, plastic materials (such as thermoplastics), plasticizers, plastisols, crude grinding and flush.

The invention relates to a composition containing a particulate solid, an organic or aqueous medium, and a copolymer containing less than 25 mol % of residues of monomers comprising a dicarboxylic acid, or anhydride thereof. The present invention provides a non-aqueous composition containing a particulate solid, an organic medium and polyurethane dispersant with a substantially linear anchoring segment pendant tertiary amine group(s) from said anchoring segment and terminally attached solvent-solubilising terminal chains of a polyester, polyether, or polyacrylate including mixtures of such terminal chains.

The present invention provides a non-aqueous composition containing a particulate solid, an organic medium and a polyurethane dispersant having laterally attached pendant groups with tertiary amine group(s), an essentially linear backbone and laterally attached solvent-solubilising side chains of a polyester or polyether including mixtures of such side chains.

Dispersants

A polyurethane polymer comprising from 35% to 90% (/) of a poly (C-alkylene oxide) based on the total weight of the polymer wherein not less than 60% by weight of the poly (C-alkylene oxide) is polyethylene oxide and wherein at least 5% of the poly (C-alkylene oxide) based on the total weight of the polymer is incorporated in lateral chains and which contains 10 to 180 milliequivalents of add groups for each 100 gm polymer when the polyurethane contains from 35 to 45% by weight poly (C-alkylene oxide), e.g. a polymer made by reacting dimethylolpropionic acid, cyclohexane dimethanol, polypropylene glycol (1000), N-methyl pyrrolidone and an &#x3b1;,&#x3b1;-diydroxy polyethylene glycol obtainable from 2,4-toluene diisocyanate, methoxy polyethylene glycol (750) and diethanolamine.

Aqueous urethane dispersants

Polymeric urethane dispersants with solubilizing polymer chains and with reactive carbon to carbon double bonds are described. The reactive double bonds facilitate molecular weight build-up of the dispersant on dispersed particles (enhancing colloidal stability) or enhance the ability of the dispersants to be crosslinked into a matrix material.
