Methods of reducing stochastic pre-ignition events and/or carbonaceous deposits in a gasoline-fueled engine by adding at least 10 ppm by weight of a compound having at least one alkyl succinic acid group to a gasoline fuel, wherein said compound is the product of (a) and (b), wherein: (a) is an amine with at least one tertiary nitrogen, water, or a hydrocarbyl substituted alcohol; and (b) is a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acid and/or anhydride.

Fuel additive compositions for gasoline direct injection engines

Fuel additive compositions having at least one acylated detergent, at least one Mannich detergent, and at least one polyether and/or polyetheramine. The acylated detergent may be the reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent and a nitrogen containing compound having at least one amino group, that may optionally be quaternizable, and at least one oxygen or nitrogen atom capable of reacting with the hydrocarbyl-substituted acylating agent. The compositions are useful for reducing the formation of carbonaceous deposits and/or cleaning carbonaceous deposits in an engine, such as a gasoline direct injection engine.

Fuel additives and formulations for improving performance of gasoline direct injection engines

Fuel compositions comprising at least 10 ppm by weight of a succinic ester acid amine salt or a succinamide acid amine salt (both 'amine salt(s)'). The amine salt is the product of (a) and (b), wherein: (a) is an amine with (i) at least one tertiary nitrogen and (ii) at least one hydroxy alkyl functional group and/or at least one secondary amine functionality; and (b) is a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acid/or anhydride. The molar ratio of (a) to (b) may range from 3:1 to 1:3. The fuel composition may comprise gasoline, oxygenate, or mixtures thereof. Methods and uses for reducing carbonaceous deposits in an engine comprising operating the engine using the fuel composition having an amine salt therein.

Amine salts for use in gasoline engines

Additive compositions comprising (a) a hydroxycarboxylic acid; and (b) a compound derived from a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acid or anhydride wherein the ratio of (a) to (b) in the additive composition ranges from 1:9 to 9:1. The additive compositions may be added to a fuel. Methods of reducing wear in an engine comprising operating the engine using a fuel composition have the additive composition therein. The use of an additive composition in a fuel composition to reduce the fuel composition's coefficient of friction or to reduce wear in an engine.

Fuel additives

A cleaning composition, which is suitable for cleaning fuel delivery systems, air-intake systems, intake valves, and combustion chambers, includes at least 3 wt. % of a polyether component, at least 5 wt. % of a polar solvent, and at least 5 wt. % a non-polar solvent. The polyether component is selected from polyethers, polyetheramines, and mixtures thereof.

Composition for cleaning gasoline engine fuel delivery systems, air intake systems, and combustion chambers

This invention relates to compositions and methods for inhibiting corrosion and deposit formation in fuel handling equipment, with reduced or eliminated incidence of fuel filter plugging and internal diesel injector deposits (IDID) in the equipment that eventually employs the final commercially blended form of the fuel. More specifically, the invention relates to inhibiting corrosion from the walls of fuel pipelines and storage equipment and preventing deposits in engines.

Ion tolerant corrosion inhibitors and inhibitor combinations for fuels

The present invention relates to functional fluid compositions containing friction modifiers, and specifically stable compositions containing friction modifiers with limited solubility in and/or limited compatibility with the functional fluids with which they are used. In particular the present invention deals with functional fluids used in internal combustion engines, such as engine oils, and friction modifiers that contain one or more amide functional groups, where the friction modifier is present in the functional fluid composition at levels that would otherwise cause the composition to be unstable and/or hazy.

Stabilized blends containing friction modifiers

The present invention relates to functional fluid compositions containing friction modifiers, and specifically stable compositions containing friction modifiers with limited solubility in and/or limited compatibility with the functional fluids with which they are used. In particular the present invention deals with functional fluids used in internal combustion engines, such as engine oils, and friction modifiers derived from hydroxy-carboxylic acids, where the friction modifier is present in the functional fluid composition at levels that would otherwise cause the composition to be unstable and/or hazy.

The invention relates to a lubricating composition comprising (a) at least 0.05 wt % of a non-aromatic metal carboxylate, wherein the metal carboxylate is derived from a branched carboxylic acid, and (b) an oil of lubricating viscosity. The invention further provides for the use of the lubricating composition for lubricating a limited slip differential.

A product and processes comprising urethane polymer and at least one copolymer from a hydrophobic ethylenically unsaturated C-Colefins copolymerized with polar monomers such as acrylates. One process optionally utilizes an acid source to modify/catalyze the reactivity of the polar monomer and/or radically activated repeat unit from the polar monomer to promote incorporation of the ethylenically unsaturated olefin. Other processes vary depending on which polymer if formed and/or dispersed first.
