A pipette tip carrier assembly suitable for storing elongate pipette tips in a biochemical analyser is described. The pipette tip carrier assembly comprises one or more holding elements each adapted to hold, in use, a respective pipette tip oriented such that the elongate dimension of the held pipette tip is parallel to a first axis. The pipette tip carrier assembly also includes a light source arranged to produce, at a position distal to the one or more holding elements along the first axis, light directed towards each of the one or more holding elements so as to be intercepted by one or more pipette tips held in 10 use by the one or more holding elements.

Pipette tip carrier assembly

There is provided a sterilisation assembly for a molecular diagnostic assay analyse. The assembly comprising: an enclosure having a passage therethrough, the passage being arranged in use to allow an assay sample set to pass through the enclosure, the enclosure defining a barrier adapted in use to restrict fluid communication across the enclosure to communication through the passage; and a decontaminator located within the passage, the decontaminator is arranged in use to sterilise contamination in the passage.

Sterilisation assembly

There is provided a pipette tip disposal assembly. The assembly comprises a receiving element adapted to support an end of at least one pipette tip, the at least one pipette tip being toppled in use from the receiving element along a first direction; and a container positioned to receive the at least one toppled pipette tip, the at least one pipette tip falling towards a base of the container on being received by the container. The base of the container has a first linear dimension aligned with the first direction corresponding to the length of a pipette tip.

There is provided a chemiluminescence detector sample enclosure. The enclosure comprises a first interface member forming part of a chemiluminescence detector and having a first sealing element and a second interface member comprising a plurality of sample holders, each sample holder having a second sealing element. The first interface member is engagable with and moveable between sample holder subsets of the plurality of sample holders, engagement with a respective sample holder subset providing engagement of the first interface member with each sample holder of the respective sample holder subset and relative movement of the first and second interface members providing movement between sample holder subsets; and when the first interface member is engaged with each respective sample holder, the first sealing element and the respective second sealing element are adapted to interact so as to form a light restricting seal between the first interface member and said sample holder.

Chemiluminescence detector sample enclosure

A fluidic card assembly () comprises an inlet () for introducing a fluid to the fluidic card assembly (), a turbulent flow portion () downstream of the inlet (), the turbulent flow portion () comprising a widening fluid channel () whereby a fluid introduced via the inlet () channel undergoes turbulence, and a laminar flow portion () downstream of the turbulent flow portion (). The laminar flow portion () is configured to allow fluid passing from the turbulent flow portion () into the laminar flow portion () to establish a laminar flow pattern, and is configured to house a biochip () such that a fluid in the laminar flow portion () may be in contact with the biochip ().

Fluidic card assembly

There is provided a method of extracting material from a fluid method of extracting material from a fluid, the fluid being held within a fluid chamber. The method comprises drawing, with a magnetic field generating system, at least one magnetically susceptible member through the fluid around a closed path between at least three points in the chamber, said at least one member being adapted to bind to material in fluid in the chamber. The at least three points are arranged relative to each other in a shape having at least two dimensions, the magnetic field generating system being configured to move the at least on magnetically susceptible member directly between the at least three points, material in the fluid binding to the at least one magnetically susceptible member when it comes into contact with the at least one member as it moves through the fluid.

Method of extracting material from a fluid and extractor

The present invention provides a chemiluminescence detector, which comprises an image capture device sensitive to chemiluminescence located within a container. The container has an array of apertures located in a field of view of the image capture device, and each aperture is defined by a through-bore in a wall of the container. The exterior of the container is engagable with a plurality of sample holders, each sample holder being in alignment with a respective aperture when engaged with the exterior of the container. The passage of light into the container through each aperture is restrictable by a closure device, passage of light into the container through the apertures is thereby controllable.

Chemiluminescence detector

According to the invention there is a microfluidic chipthat includes at least two layersforming a stack of layers, each layer of which has at least one flow channel; a boreextending through the layers and communicating with a plurality of flow channels; and a valve, which has a shaftwith a recessin a side of the shaft for fluid to flow through. The shaft is rotatably mounted in the bore, and has a first position in which the recess is aligned with each of at least two flow channels of the plurality of flow channels thereby providing a flow path between the at least two flow channels, and a second position in which the recess is unaligned with at least one of the at least two flow channels the flow path between the at least two flow channels thereby being closed. This allows a fluid flow path between two flow channels to be open and closed by rotation of the shaft so that fluid in the microfluidic chip can be redirected to allow the chip to have greater capability and by using a minimal amount of space on the chip to do so.

Microfluidic chip

A fluidic card assembly comprising a fluidic card housing () and a biochip () located in the fluidic card housing. The fluidic card housing () includes a chamber () with a base wall, into which at least one fluidic channel extends. The biochip () is at least partially located in the chamber. A seal () is provided for sealing the biochip in the chamber () when the biochip is urged into the chamber. The fluidic channel has a serpentine form.

Fluidic card for analysis of biochips

The present invention is directed to a cap for a biochip storage well. The cap comprises a resilient sealant layer capable, under the application of pressure, of forming a vapour-proof seal with a line contact interface formation extending around the perimeter of a biochip storage well. An assay assembly comprising the cap of the invention and a biochip storage is disclosed. Methods of sealing a biochip storage well using a cap of the invention are also disclosed.

There is provided an assay fluid delivery system comprising an array of fluid reservoirs (), each of which is selectively actuatable to deliver a respective fluid to a fluid channel structure; and a fluid delivery control system () comprising a plurality of reciprocally mounted actuators, each associated with a respective reservoir and being movable between a retracted position and an actuating position at which it causes fluid to be delivered from the corresponding reservoir, a plurality of cams () with different profiles mounted on a common, rotatable cam shaft (), each cam being engaged with a respective one of the actuators whereby rotation of the cams causes movement of the corresponding actuators between the retracted and actuating positions, and a motor coupled to the cam shaft for rotating the cam shaft, wherein the cams are shaped relative to one another so as to cause the corresponding actuators to actuate the reservoirs in a predetermined sequence and for predetermined respective times.
