Conventionally, software-based services that utilize satellites are manually and painstakingly configured, provisioned, activated, and calibrated, because the complexity and variability of satellite links prevent automated and scalable service orchestration. Accordingly, systems and processes are disclosed for automated and scalable orchestration of services that utilize satellite links. In response to a service request, comprising a service definition for an end-to-end service, parameter(s) of a satellite link that satisfies the service definition may be calculated. These parameter(s) may be used to select a configuration for a satellite-network service chain, comprising a plurality of virtual network functions, from a service catalog. The satellite-network service chain may then be instantiated, within a cloud infrastructure, using the selected configuration. This process may be implemented in a software-defined network controller which dynamically manages the resources and configuration of the service chain.

Dynamic management of software-defined service chains for satellite communications

Software-based orchestration of communication payloads in satellites. In an embodiment, a payload model of a satellite payload, defined in a data modeling language (e.g., YANG) and representing a configuration for the satellite payload, is received. The configuration specifies a setting for at least one component of the satellite payload. The payload model is translated into one or more satellite commands for configuring the satellite payload according to the configuration represented in the payload model, and the satellite payload is reconfigured using the satellite command(s).

Software-based orchestration of communication payloads in satellites

Systems, devices, and methods for satellite communications are disclosed. The devices and methods can be used for communications diversity in a system having multiple radio frequency terminals (RFTs). In a transmit chain, each RFT can be associated with an antenna for the transmission of signals to a satellite. The system can select one or more uplinks for transmission of one or more versions of a transmit signal via associated antennas. The one or more versions can have a piggyback signal associated with and phase locked to a symbol rate of the transmit signal. In a receive chain, phase differences between the piggyback signals can allow adjustment of one or more time delays in the transmit chain to provide improved signal to noise ratio of the received versions of the transmit signal in the receive chain.

System and method for optimizing satellite gateway diversity

The disclosure provides systems and methods for interference reduction in wireless communications. The method can include receiving a composite signal having multiple overlapping constituent signals and a noise floor. The noise floor can have at least one interfering coherent signal. The system can characterize and synthesize the multiple overlapping constituent signals without a priori know. The method can include receiving a secondary input comprising the at least one interfering coherent signal. The method can include canceling the interfering coherent signal from the noise floor. The method can include outputting the first signal and the second signal having a reduced noise floor.

Systems and methods for signal cancellation in satellite communication

A device and method for demodulation of multiple received signals is provided. The device can have a receiver configured to receive a composite signal having two or more constituent signals overlapped in frequency. The device can have one or more processors configured to determine a at least one modulation type and at least one symbol rate corresponding to the two or more constituent signals. The one or more processors can further resample the composite signal at a sampling rate that is a multiple of the at least one symbol rate to determine the characteristics of the two or more constituent signals. The one or more processors can separate and output the two or more constituent signals using the determined characteristics.

System and method for increasing spot beam satellite bandwidth

Reducing interference on an input signal which includes a desired signal and an interfering signal, including: processing the input signal in frequency and time domain to separate the desired signal from the interfering signal by: characterizing the interfering signal without a priori knowledge of characteristics of the interfering signal; generating a clean copy of a carrier of the input signal using the characterized interfering signal; inverting the clean copy of the carrier and correcting for gain and phase; and summing the inverted clean copy of the carrier with the input signal to generate an output signal which is substantially close to the desired signal, wherein the generated output signal has adequate signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) so that it can be processed.
