An electrical connector includes a dielectric housing, a plurality of electrical signal contacts carried by the dielectric housing, and a ground plate carried by the dielectric housing. The electrical signal contacts are arranged along a first plane, wherein the signal contacts define signal pairs. The signal contacts further define respective mating and mounting ends. The ground plate includes a ground plate body oriented in a second plane that is substantially parallel to the first plane and offset from the first plane. The ground plate body defines first and second opposed surfaces. The ground plate includes at least one rib that defines first and second opposed surfaces, wherein the first surface of the rib projects from the first surface of the ground plate body in a direction toward the first plane between adjacent signal pairs, and the second surface is recessed into the second surface of the ground plate body.

Electrically insulative organizers configured to maintain alignment of leadframe assemblies in an electrical connector are disclosed, in one example, an organizer includes a stiffener wall and a projection that extends from the stiffener wall. The electrically insulative body is sized to be inserted into a channel defined by the leadframe assemblies. In another example, an organizer includes an electrically insulative organizer body and a plurality of divider walls that are supported by the organizer body and spaced from each other along a lateral direction so as to be positioned for insertion between adjacent leadframe assemblies.

A method including providing a contact lead frame comprised of a sheet metal member, where the contact lead frame includes a plurality of first signal contacts and a plurality of second ground contacts, where the first signal contacts have a male termination end with a first effective thickness which is substantially the same as thickness of the sheet metal member, and stamping a male termination end of the second ground contact, located at a same side of the lead frame as the male termination end of the first signal contacts, to form a dual beam structure having a second effective thickness which is larger than the first effective thickness, where two beams of the dual beam structure are generally parallel to each other along a majority of length of the male termination end of the second ground contact.

Electrical connector assemblies are provided that include electrical connectors having electrical contacts that have receptacle mating ends are provided. The connector housings of the provided electrical connectors include alignment members that are capable of performing staged alignment of components of the electrical connector assemblies. The provided electrical connector assemblies and the electrical connectors provided therein are capable of operating at a data transfer rate of forty gigabits per second with worst case multi-active cross talk that does not exceed a range of about two percent to about four percent.
