A method and system for evolving electronic circuits based on defined rules. A first approach uses a network of nodes having established topological and behavioral relationships amongst themselves. An A/D converter is developed using this approach. A second approach employs software agents to create signal filters. The present invention is directed to a process for the production of a peptide, polypeptide, or protein having a predetermined property. In accordance with one embodiment, the process begins by producing by way of synthetic polynucleotide coupling, stochastically generated polynucleotide sequences. A library of expression vectors containing such stochastically generated polynucleotide sequences is formed. Next, host cells containing the vectors are cultured so as to produce peptides, polypeptides, or proteins encoded by the stochastically generated polynucleotide sequences. Screening or selection is carried out on such host cells to identify a peptide, polypeptide, or protein produced by the host cells which has the predetermined property. The stochastically generated polynucleotide sequence which encodes the identified peptide, polypeptide, or protein is then isolated and used to produce the peptide, polypeptide, or protein having the predetermined property.

The invention provides a method of identifying nucleic acid molecules that contain cis acting nucleic acid elements. Also provided is a method of isolating nucleic acid binding factors. The invention also provides methods of identifying compounds that are cis acting nucleic acid element analogs, compounds that are nucleic acid binding factor analogs, compounds that selectively bind cis acting nucleic acid elements and compounds that selectively displace binding between a nucleic acid binding factor and a cis acting nucleic acid element or between nucleic acid binding factors. Also provided is a method of determining a binding state of a nucleic acid. Pluralities of isolated nucleic acid molecules containing cis acting nucleic acid elements, of isolated cis acting nucleic acid elements and of isolated nucleic acid binding factors are also provided. The invention further provides methods of treating pathological conditions using molecules of the invention to alter genetic activities of nucleic acids involved in pathological conditions.

Methods and compositions for identifying nucleic acids containing cis acting elements

The invention provides a system and method called Economic Web Sherpa which effectively and rapidly gathers data on the functional relations within an economy and which synthesizes an economic web model defining the local structure of the economic relations within the vicinity of a company or other economic agent. Economic Web Sherpa also analyzes the functional structure of the economic web model and generates new goods and services to identify new niches, new growth opportunities and new locations of strategic competition for a company of other economic agent.
