An examination device for a heart. An afterload device connected to the aorta provides a counter-pressure by an annular space delimited between a rigid cylinder and an elastic tube inserted in the rigid cylinder. The annular space comprises a compressible medium, such as air, nitrogen gas or carbon dioxide and is connected to a reservoir providing a predetermined pressure corresponding to a diastolic pressure. The reservoir is connected to the annular space via a restriction and a back-flow valve. During diastole, the annular space is inflated by the reservoir and provides a diastolic counter pressure for providing coronary flow. During systole, the ejected fluid from the heart ventricle displaces the medium inside the annular space through the restriction to the reservoir, thereby removing energy from the fluid. The compressible medium forms a compliance. Also, there is a preload device comprising a vertical collapsible tube for preload of the atrium.

Afterload device for a beating heart during examination thereof

A device for arranging a harvested heart to be stored in an enclosure before transplantation, whereby the heart is connected to a tube for supply of a medical fluid to the heart. A cylindrical insert intended to be arranged in a enclosure for the heart, comprises a fixture for immobilizing the tube in a central position of the insert. The fixture comprises an arm extending from the periphery of the fixture to the center of the fixture; and a jaw device for gripping the tube and maintaining the tube and the organ hanging in the tube in a predetermined height position.

Insert for an organ transport device

A medical fluid for a harvested organ, tissue or part thereof, for evaluation and/or preservation. The fluid includes cocaine or a stimulating analog thereof; noradrenaline; and/or adrenaline. In addition, the fluid includes an oncotic agent, such as dextran; hormones, such as thyroxin; triiodotyronine; cortisone, insulin; and electrolytes and optionally nutrients in substantially physiological concentrations in a physiologically acceptable medium. In addition, the medical fluid further includes albumin in a concentration not exceeding 5.0%, and an oxygen carrier, such as erythrocytes. Further components may be dopamine; hydrocortisone; methylprednisolone; and a vasopressor agent, such as desmopressin. The cocaine; adrenaline; and noradrenaline are present in concentrations of each about 0.010 &#x3bc;M to 0.100 &#x3bc;M, for example in a ratio of 1:1:1.

Medical fluid, a method of treatment and use of the fluid

An apparatus intended for evaluation, preservation and perfusion of an organ, such as a lung. The apparatus includes a container with a bottom portion, an insert portion and a lid portion. A pulmonary artery tube is intended to be connected to the lung pulmonary artery and a trachea tube is intended to be connected to the trachea of the lungs and bent tube connects the pulmonary artery tube to a circuit for providing a fluid to the pulmonary artery is provided. The circuit includes a pump, an oxygenator, an optional leukocyte-filter, and a holder for connecting the trachea tube to a source of respiration. There is an oxygenator tube set and a leukocyte-filter tube set. A supporting structure for the container comprises a recess sized for enclosing said container and a display panel. Moreover, there are two handles, which may be unfolded into a position for supporting a sterile cloth.

Container and supporting structure for housing an organ

An evaluation and preservation solution for human and animal organs, tissues and parts thereof is described, wherein it comprises serum albumin at a concentration of 55-105 g/L, a scavenger and coating compound, preferably dextran compounds and derivatives thereof having essentially the same structure at a concentration of 1-55 g/L weight, and a physiological serum concentration of salts and nutrients in a physiologically acceptable medium.

Evaluation and preservation solution

The present invention relates to priming solutions used during cardiopulmonary bypass procedures. In particular, the present invention relates to a cardiopulmonary bypass priming solution comprising a balanced salt solution and a combination of oncotic and non-oncotic dextran molecules. The present invention also relates to the use of the priming solution in a cardiopulmonary bypass method, a method of maintaining oncotic pressure in a patient during a cardiopulmonary bypass procedure, and a combination of cardiopulmonary bypass priming solution and cardiopulmonary bypass apparatus.

Priming solutions for cardiopulmonary bypass

A method and device for providing ventilation gas to a patient during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The device comprises: a gas source for supplying oxygen to the bronchi of the patient and a switch valve for initiating and terminating the gas supply. The switch valve is operated synchronous with the cardiopulmonary resuscitation cycle so that the switch valve operates with the same cycle as the cardiopulmonary resuscitation cycle but off-set in relation to the cardiopulmonary resuscitation cycle. The gas supply is initiated between 25% and 2% of the cycle time before the start of a compression stroke and is terminated between 2% and 30% of the cycle time after the start of a compression stroke. Alternatively, the gas supply is initiated between 25% and 48% of the cycle time after the termination of a compression stroke and is and terminated between 52% and 80% after the termination of a compression stroke.

Method and device for gas supply during cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Use of potassium for the production of a cardioplegic solution for the prevention of stone heart development during acute cardiac ventricular fibrillation in connection with cardiopulmonary resuscitation is described, as well as a cardioplegic solution comprising potassium and a method for the prevention of stone heart developement during acute cardiac ventricular fibrillation in connection with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Cardioplegic solution

Improved procedures for cardiopulmonary resuscitation of a victim of cardiac arrest are provided. In the resuscitation, the victim's chest is mechanically compressed and decompressed to stimulate the heart. The victim is induced to inspire and expire against insufflating breathing gas during the chest compression/decompressions. The breathing gases are adduced under pressure to promote the development of a positive coronary perfusion pressure. Electro-stimulation of the heart can be carried after positive coronary perfusion pressures have been achieved. The electro-stimulation can be defibrillation or heart pacing or both. The chest compression/decompression cycles and the electro-stimulation measures are synchronized to promote sufficiently body circulation of oxygenated blood in a subject suffering from cardiac arrest. Medical equipment systems are provided for implementing the CPR procedures.

Systems and procedures for treating cardiac arrest

An improved preservation solution is described, which is intended for the preservation of organs and tissues, or parts thereof, from humans and animals. The improved preservation solution contains calcium, at least one colloidosmotically active substance, and nitroglycerin. Also described is a method for preserving organs and tissues, or parts thereof, from humans and animals in the improved preservation solution.

Preservation solution

The invention relates to a device for therapeutical treatment of a blood vessel. It comprises in combination a stent, a balloon catheter for the insertion of the stent into a blood vessel, and a generator for generating ultrasound. The stent can be expanded radially and is of such construction that it is caused to vibrate and/or develop heat when exposed to ultrasound. Inserted into the blood vessel the stent can be expanded by means of the balloon catheter to engage the inside surface of the blood vessel in order to be left in the expanded condition as an inside lining in the blood vessel after the balloon catheter having been withdrawn from the blood vessel. Energy is transferred wirelessly by means of ultrasound generated by the generator, from an extra-corporeal position to the stent as located in the blood vessel engaging the inside surface thereof.
