In a method of producing biogas by anaerobic digestion of organic matter, organic matter is dried to a dry solids content of at least 50% by weight TS and pelletized and then mixed with a liquid to form a slurry. The slurry is contacted with biogas-producing bacteria for digestion under anaerobic conditions in a reactor () while producing biogas.

Method and apparatus for production of biogas from an organic material

A novel strain of , referred to as LB931, has now been isolated. The strain has been deposited at Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen, Braunschweig, DE. It has been assigned accession number DSM11918. Accordingly LB931 can be used for treating and/or preventing urogenital infections. LB931 can advantageously be included in pharmaceutical compositions and in products for personal care, such as feminine hygiene products, diapers and sanitary napkins.

Strain of Lactobacillus plantarum and uses thereof

The invention relates to absorbent articles, such as diapers and like articles and is concerned with methods for preventing undesirable odors and/or preventing the growth of undesirable microorganisms when the articles are in use, and also provides an absorbent article which can be worn for long periods of time without generating undesirable odors, incurring the risk of infection or having a negative effect on skin. Another object is to amplify the presence in the wearer's urogenital zone of microbiological flora that will assist in preventing the occurrence of urinal tract infections. These objects have been achieved by adding to the absorbent articles microorganisms which exhibit antagonistic properties against present undesirable strains of microorganisms, so as to restrain the growth of these or establishing of new undesirable species.

Inhibiting the growth of bacteria in absorbent articles by adding other bacteria

An agent which possesses antimicrobial properties and a minimum tendency, or a completely discontinued tendency, to produce contact allergic reactions or toxic effects includes a mixture of a compound which produces Zn.sup.2+ -ions and one or more so-called resin acids or other resin compounds or resin acid derivatives present in the purest possible form, and to the use of the agent in preparing skin, wound, teeth and mucus-membrane treatment products, and to such products as insulating material, building material, paper, surface treatment material, disinfectants, cosmetics and like products which contain conventionally different types of resins.

Means having microbial effect and little or completely abolished

A pharmaceutical preparation in the prophylaxis against and/or the treatment of .beta.-streptococcal tonsillitis is described. The preparation includes at least one viable microorganism strain selected from the group consisting of Streptococcus sanguis II strains with the deposit numbers NCIB 40104, NCIB 40105 and NCIB 40106, the Streptococcus mitis strain with the deposit number NCIB 40107 and streptococci strains with essentially the same capacity to inhibit .beta.-streptococci as the deposited strains, in a pharmaceutically acceptable medium wherein the microorganisms retain their viability. Use of the preparation in the prophylaxis against and/or the treatment of .beta.-streptococcal tonsillitis is also described.
