An antirotation stabilizer may include one or more antirotation pads extending from a stabilizer body. Each antirotation pad may be positioned at least partially within a recess formed in the stabilizer body. Each antirotation pad may be coupled to a torsion bar. The torsion bar may couple between the antirotation pad and the stabilizer body and may be under torsional loading such that the antirotation pad is extended from the stabilizer body. The antirotation stabilizer may include one or more rollers.

Device to resist rotational forces while drilling a borehole

A downhole actuator device comprises a central shaft formed with external threads; a sleeve formed with internal threads and placed substantially concentrically around the shaft; and an electromotor arranged to rotate at least a first one of said shaft and said sleeve so that a second one of said shaft and said sleeve may be moved linearly relative to the first one of said shaft and said sleeve. The actuator further comprises a plurality of roller screws that are rotatingly supported between the shall and sleeve in engagement with said external threads on the shaft and said internal threads on the sleeve.

Downhole actuator device

A downhole tool is arranged for connection to a fluid-carrying string. The downhole tool includes: a first reversibly expandable sealing element; a second reversibly expandable sealing element placed at an axial distance from the first reversibly expandable sealing element; one or more fluid ports positioned between the two reversibly expandable sealing elements and arranged to be put in fluid communication with the fluid-carrying string; a first anchoring device arranged to engage a pipe body in a well; and one or more electromotors arranged at least to operate the two reversibly expandable sealing elements and the first anchoring device. The downhole tool further includes a first mechanically activatable release mechanism arranged at least to disengage the first anchoring device from the pipe body. A method is for utilizing a downhole tool.

Downhole tool device and method for using the same

A gripper mechanism () suspended in a coiled tubing/wireline in a well serves to releasably hold a downhole tool or other piece of equipment positioned downstream, via a tubular connecting element (). The gripper mechanism () comprises axially, two relative to each other, movable coaxial parts (), a gripping part () designed to grip said connecting element () and an actuating part () designed to exert a radial clamping effect on the gripping portion () of the gripping part () when this is in engagement with said connecting element (). The clamping effect is due to complimentary conical face on opposite sides of the two parts () of the gripper mechanism () being forced against each other by the axial displacement of one part () relative to the other part () in one direction (the upstream/pull-up direction). In order to enable a small cone/coning angle to be used at these complimentary conical faces, while at the same time ensuring that the conical faces do not get wedged to each other across a longitudinal course in the axial direction, the conical faces of each part (and) have been divided, so that each conical face comprises annular conical part faces () and intermediate annular cylindrical part faces (). The conical part faces () have a mutually equal amount of taper and the same axial extent. The intermediate cylindrical part faces () have a mutually equal axial extent.

Arrangement in a gripper mechanism for a free pipe/rodlike end portion of a downhole tool

An arrangement by a hydraulic jar device, especially for use in underground wells, where the jar device is installed in a pipe string led down into the well, and designed so that e.g. a stuck object in the well may be loosened or broken up by upward or downward percussions from the jar device. The jar device is actuated by increasing the flow of drill fluid. Alternatively, the device is actuated by compression. A valve () closes off the flow of drill fluid, whereby a percussion cycle is initiated. The valve is designed so as also to seal during strong lateral accelerations.

Hydraulic jar device

A compressed fluid driven downhole cam motor () of the type used during drilling/service operations in the ground, comprising an intermediate casing (), a distributing valve (), a rotor () and two or more pistons () arranged radially and distributed with equal or unequal separation about the central axis of the rotor (), whereby the pistons () located in the same radial plane constitute a set of pistons, and where two or more sets of pistons are arranged side by side along the longitudinal axis of the rotor ().

Hydraulic cam motor

A connector for connection of a pipe end portion of coiled tubing adapted for connecting a piece of downhole equipment. The connector is formed by three separate parts that can be screwed together two and two, of which a radially inner shrinkable adapter sleeve compressively surrounded by an elongate outer adapter and connector sleeve ensures the securing of the end portion of the coiled tubing, whereas a freely projecting, internally threaded end portion of the outer sleeve ensures the connection to the remaining part of the connector in the screwing together. The connector, besides exhibiting improved tensile, flexural and compressive strength properties, is also well suited to absorb torques applied. The inner shrinkable adapter sleeve, which has an external jacket surface of an axially conical extent, is provided with external threads, complementarily matched by the internal threads of the outer adapter and connector sleeve, which are formed in the bore-defining inner circumferential surface, which has a conical extent in the axial direction, its conicity complementarily corresponding to the externally conical extent of the inner adapter sleeve.

Connector and method of use of the connector

A method and apparatus for advancing a rotating motorized downhole tool for operations in oil/gas wells. The apparatus is adapted for drilling and milling away of casing sections in the wells, as preparation for plugging the same. The apparatus includes a rotating tool and a driving motor indirectly suspended on coiled tubing. The apparatus also includes a carriage connected to the motor adapted to absorb torques that occur during use. The carriage is connected to the coiled tubing via a swivel coupling such that a tensile force on the coiled tubing provides an advancing force for the tool and motor.

Method and apparatus for operations in underground/subsea oil and gas wells

A tool adapted for changing the direction of drilling during drilling. The drilling equipment used in the drilling includes a drill string, a bent sub, a drill motor, and a drill bit. The tool is positioned between the drill string and the bent sub, includes housing elements connected to one another, and has a passage for drilling fluid. The tool can be activated for rotation of the bent sub, so that the direction of drilling is changed in an infinitely variable manner. The tool includes a valve adapted for choking the passage so that the tool can be activated for rotation, a piston adapted for forced guiding of the rotation. The guides can be formed by twisted splines formed in the wall of the passage and in the wall of the opposite piston.

Tool for changing the drilling direction while drilling

In connection with a method and a tool for preparing a well for the production of hydrocarbons, it is aimed at perforating a casing portion () and working surrounding sediment () in a channel-forming manner. For this purpose the tool comprises a drilling means for drilling transverse holes through the casing wall when the tool (), which is arranged to be raised/lowered and rotated about its longitudinal axis, shared by the casing (), is placed in a fixed position within the well, through which transverse hole () and into surrounding sediment a jetting hose means () is arranged to jet/dig its way in a channel-forming manner. The drilling and jetting hose means also have inactive stand-by positions protectively retracted within the tool housing (), from and into which they may successively be pushed forward into active working positions and again be withdrawn, as a channel () is completed in the sediment ().

Method and apparatus for operations in underground subsea oil and gas wells

A quick connector ( ) is to facilitate the connecting of the connecting end of coiled tubing and the connecting end of a tool. For this purpose, the connector comprises two connectable and lockable main parts ( and ) formed to be screwed to the end of coiled tubing and the tool, respectively, when the main parts ( and ) are in separate positions. A first main part ( ) has a freely ending pin element ( ) conically narrowing towards said free end, with elongate, axially directed, circumferentially distributed ridges ( ) with intermediate grooves ( ). A second main part ( ) has a pin-element-accommodating bore ( ) of complementarily conical shape, defined by corresponding ridges ( ) with intermediate grooves ( ). At least one set of elongate ridges ( and/or ) have rounded top portions.

Quick connector with a through bore

A releasable connector connects between coiled tubing, a pipe string or similar tubular string and a tool/piece of equipment. Two sleeve-shaped inter-connectable parts are configured to be releasable, wherein one is connected to the coiled tubing, and the other is connected to the tool/equipment. A locking device holds the two sleeve-shaped parts of the connector in a blocked non-released position, and a retaining sleeve keeps the locking device in its locking position. The retaining sleeve is axially displaceable for releasing the connector by a sufficient, axial displacing movement. A coaxial displaceable piston body with a transversal end surface can be influenced by fluid pressure in order to start a releasing process. The piston body has a spring, which resists the displacement of the piston and is arranged in a spring chamber. In an initial position of the connector, the spring chamber is filled with a medium which can be forced out through a cavity and an opening. Forcing the medium through the opening provides for a delay on the displacement of the piston body and the compression of the spring and, thus, a release delay.

Releasable connector

A hydraulically releasable coupling device has an upstream part arranged to permit connection to tubing and a downstream part arranged to be connected to a tool or equipment. A radially expandable locking ring is configured to expand and thereby to disconnect the coupling device. A movable securing ring portion encloses the locking ring at least partially in an unexpanded locking position thereof. A piston body is connected to the securing ring portion and has a through passage which is provided downstream with a restriction element. The piston body has an upstream piston head with an annular upstream reaction surface and an annular downstream reaction surface for pressure fluid in counterflow. The piston head has a larger diameter than a downstream extension formed as a piston skirt, in which the restriction element is mounted. A longitudinal portion of the piston skirt, next to the piston head, is enclosed by a cylinder chamber of the piston head accommodating a return spring.
