Provided are techniques for presenting a data visualization on an off-line mobile device. A report specification is parsed to detect a drill definition to navigate from a report viewer to an interactive visualizer. Data package report specifications are generated to create data and metadata. Data package report output is obtained for each of the data package report specifications. Data and metadata in each data package report output are converted. The converted data and metadata are stored into a data package. A mobile content package is created using the data package and a visualization specification. A report and the mobile content package are delivered to the off-line mobile device. The report viewer is used to present the report. In response to a user interacting with a user interface control on the presented report, the interactive visualizer is launched to present the data visualization using the mobile content package.

The updated server context is round tripped to the client and included in a subsequent request. After being received from the client, the subsequent request is optimized based on the included updated server context.

A method and a system for analyzing a data value of interest in a multidimensional database. The data value of interest is first identified in a structured report. The data source for the structured report is retrieved. A context for the data value of interest in the data source is collected, for example, by extracting a slicer from the structured report, by extracting members of master-detail pages, or by extracting a default measure from the structured report. An analysis specification based on the collected context is then built, and the data value of interest is analyzed using the analysis specification. The result from analyzing the data value of interest may be presented in an analysis view.

Method and system for determining a driving factor for a data value of interest in a multidimensional database, by collecting a context for the data value of interest in the multidimensional database. The data value of interest has dimensional levels with dimensional members outside the drill path of the data value of interest. The dimensional levels are enumerated in a list. A query using the dimensional members of the dimensional level is executed. A variance is calculated for the set of query results. A driving factor for the data value of interest is determined based on the variance. The driving factor is added to the context of the data value of interest.

A segmentation management system manages segmentation of a set of members in a multi-dimensionally modeled data source. The segmentation management system comprises a segment definition manager, a segmentation engine and a segment application manager. The segment definition manager manages definitions of identifiable non-overlapping segments for a given base set of members in a multi-dimensionally modeled data source. The segmentation engine divides the base set of members into the segments based on the definitions of the segments. The segment application manager allows the segments to be used as objects.

A business intelligence analysis client system is used with a business intelligence analysis sever system having an object model representing one or more data sources. The client system maintains a business intelligence analysis client copy of the object model that is maintained by the server system. The client system obtains from the server system a result of the user request including update information, and updates the client copy of the object model according to the update information. The client system presents the result of the user request based on the updated client copy of the object model.

A definition manager independently defines a plurality of dimensional members of a data source. An operation manager receives user input selecting a set of dimensional members of interest and at least one operator to manipulate the selected set of members based on the selected at least one operator. The set of dimensional members of interest comprise a first dimensional member of interest having a given dimension and a given level in a hierarchy of the given dimension and a second dimensional member of interest having a different dimension from the given dimension or a different level in the hierarchy from the given level in the hierarchy. A display manager places the manipulated set of dimensional members in a report so that the manipulated set of dimensional members are displayed adjacently based on the operator to facilitate comparative analysis.

Method and system for removing sparse data in a response to a query to a multidimensional database by establishing a cross-tab with sparse data. After selecting a member in an axis of the cross-tab for sparsity removal, a first set expression on the orthogonal axis is selected in the context of the member. The context of the orthogonal axis is collected for generating a filter set expression with a data removal criteria, based on the collected context; and the query is submitted to the database with the filter set expression.

A large report management system manages a large Online Analytic Processing (OLAP) report. The system segments a set of members of interest for an OLAP report to define one or more segments, and determines an interest degree of each segment. The system generates a summarized representation of each segment that is of lesser interest, and presents a report with members of each segment of greater interest and the summarized representation of each segment of lesser interest.
