A sleeve cuff is provided for a sleeve including an anterior patch affixed to the sleeve and covering at least a portion of a cutout in the sleeve, a distal strap affixed to the sleeve and spanning over at least a portion of a cutout in the sleeve, and the distal strap overlapping at least a portion of the anterior patch to form an aperture for receiving a thumb therethrough. The sleeve cuff has a plurality of configurations, including at least a closed configuration where the aperture is closed and minimizes the wearer's exposure to wind and air elements therethrough, and an opened configuration where the aperture is opened and minimizes the air penetration around the received thumb.

Layered thumbhole structure

A sleeve cuff is provided for a sleeve having an anterior patch affixed to the sleeve and covering at least a portion of a cutout in the sleeve, a distal strap affixed to the sleeve and spanning over at least a portion of a cutout in the sleeve, and the distal strap overlapping at least a portion of the anterior patch to form an aperture for receiving a thumb therethrough. A tubular sleeve having a proximal end opposite a distal end, a cutout formed through the tubular sleeve proximate the distal end, a first panel having at least a trailing edge and spanning a first portion of the cutout, a second panel having at least a leading edge and a trailing edge and spanning a second portion of the cutout, and a third panel having at least a leading edge and spanning a third portion of the cutout. The second panel may overlap the first panel across the entire width of the cutout such that the second-panel leading edge is distal to the first-panel trailing edge. The third panel may overlap the second panel across the entire width of the cutout such that the third-panel leading edge is distal to the second-panel trailing edge. In some aspects, a mitten may be affixed to an interior surface of the tubular sleeve.

An adaptive material garment system includes a number of components to effectively transport and exhaust moisture and thermal energy while protecting the wearer from undesired levels of air permeability. Therefore, an adaptive material responsive to stimuli, such as moisture, is used as a base layer against a wearer's skin. The base layer is effective to transport thermal energy and/or sweat away from the skin. The base layer may be formed with a first gauge greater than and a denier that is less than an outer article. The outer article may also be formed from an adaptive material responsive to the same or different stimuli. The outer article may also have a wind-resistant panel having apertures and a selectively coupled perimeter.

Adaptive material article system

A cold-weather apparel item configured to promote breathability, provide warmth, and minimize distractions is provided herein. The cold-weather apparel item is formed from a composite fabric that is breathable and repels water. The cold-weather apparel item further comprises at least a hood lock cord system that maintains the hood of the apparel item in a secure position while not being used, inflow air ducts and outflow air ducts to provide ventilation, and a layered thumbhole assembly with overlapping panels that fits snugly around a wearer's thumbs when used.

Cold-weather apparel item

An apparel item having a cord lock for restricting the movement of a hood on an article of apparel. The cord lock may have a first end, a second end, and an intervening portion. The cord lock may be positioned on an outer-facing surface of a back panel of the apparel item proximate to a neckline area of the apparel item.
