A system includes a chassis having an interior containing at least one component secured to a base. A cable storage module is attached to the chassis and has a frame defining an interior space in which a cable is stored. The cable has a first end extending out of the frame for connection to the component and a second end extending out of the frame for connection to a device exterior to the chassis.

Imaging device analysis systems and imaging device analysis methods are described. According to one embodiment, an imaging device analysis system includes a light source configured to generate a plurality of light beams for analysis of an imaging device, wherein the light beams comprise light of a plurality of different spectral power distributions, processing circuitry coupled with the light source and configured to control the light source to generate the light beams, and an optical interface optically coupled with a light receiving member of the imaging device and configured to communicate the plurality of light beams to the light receiving member of the imaging device.

A color analysis system includes a light source and a sensor configured to provide an output signal in response to reflected light received from the first light source. A controller receives the output signal and is configured to determine an adjustment factor based on the output signal, and determine a color based on the output signal and the adjustment factor.

Color analysis system and method

Systems and methods for attaching a cover to a text body to create bound documents with floating and attached spines are described. In some embodiments, a solid pressure sensitive adhesive film is applied between a cover and the side hinge areas of a text body, and a cover is bound to the side hinge areas of the text body with pressure. A solid pressure sensitive adhesive tape may be dispensed from an adhesive dispenser that includes a plug-in cartridge housing, a supply spool, and a take-up spool. In other embodiments, an adhesive sheet that includes a hot melt adhesive film and a backing is applied to the text body, with the hot melt adhesive film in contact with the side hinge areas and the spine of the text body. The hot melt adhesive is exposed in areas corresponding to the side hinge areas of the text body for attaching the cover to the text body. In one embodiment, an adhesive sheet includes a hot melt adhesive film and a backing layer that is attached to the hot melt adhesive film and has one or more slits extending in a substantially longitudinal direction. The slitted backing layer is configured to expose the hot melt adhesive upon stretching of the backing layer in a direction substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal direction.

Systems and methods of attaching a cover to a text body

A color analysis system includes a plurality of light sources configured to illuminate a test patch. A sensor is configured to receive light from the plurality of light sources reflected from the test patch. A controller is configured to determine the color of the test patch in response to light received by the sensor reflected from the first light source, and adjust the color determination in response to light received by the sensor reflected from the first and second light sources.

An adhesive application assembly is configured for use in a book binding station that includes a saddle for supporting a plurality of sheets. The adhesive application assembly includes an adhesive applicator, a movable support arm supporting the adhesive applicator, and a drive mechanism. The drive mechanism is coupled with the support arm and is configured to move the support arm and the adhesive applicator toward the saddle to apply adhesive to an outermost sheet on the saddle.

Method and assembly for binding a book with adhesive

In order to provide more secure binding of physical media, activation and deactivation mechanisms for media binders are presented. As such, internal spine clamp deactivation mechanisms for deactivating a spine clamp in a media binder are presented, the mechanism including: a tension sheet configured to operate the spine clamp in response to opening the media binder in a range of approximately 270 to 360 degrees (&#xb0;), normally, greater than approximately 270&#xb0;; a tear line disposed along the tension sheet and oriented along the spine clamp wherein when the tension sheet is torn at the tear line, the spine clamp is deactivated. In some embodiments, the mechanism further includes a cosmetic sheet disposed between the tension sheet and a cover of the media binder for providing a cover for the spine clamp such that when the tension sheet is torn, the spine clamp remains covered.

Activation and deactivation mechanisms for media binders

Media binder systems with datum stops for registering physical media sheets are described. A media binder system that includes a cover, a binding system, and a datum stop. The cover includes an outwardly facing side and an inwardly facing side. The binding system is attached to the inwardly facing side of the cover and is operable to bind a spine end of a collection of physical media sheets to the cover. The datum stop protrudes away from the inwardly facing side of the cover and includes a datum stop surface against which a head end or a tail end of the collection is registerable prior to binding the collection to the cover. Methods of making media binder systems also are described.

A method of finishing a plurality of sheets for a bound document. The method comprises accumulating a stack of sheets at a first position, scoring the sheets at the first position, and outputting the stack of scored sheets from the first position.

Method and apparatus for finishing sheets for a bound document

The present invention is directed to articles such as media binders. In an embodiment the media binder includes spine clamps for securing physical media where the spine clamps define an interior cavity for receiving the physical media; a datum stop for aligning the physical media, the datum stop disposed proximal to one end of the spine clamp; a tension sheet for transmitting an opening force to the spine clamp, the tension sheet affixed with the spine clamp; and a cover affixed with the tension sheet, the cover configured to open such that an opening force is applied to the spine clamp when the cover is opened from a first position to a second position.

Media binder arrangements

Spring clamp binders that include sheet retention mechanisms that provide improved performance and increase manufacturing efficiency and cost-effectiveness are described. The spring clamp binders have a cover and one or more spring clamps for holding one or more items, including sheets of physical media, such as loose sheets of paper, pages of a photoalbum, and other types of physical media. Methods of manufacturing spring clamp binders also are described.

Sheet retention mechanisms for spring clamp binders

A method of trimming a plurality of sheets bound together, in which each of the plurality of sheets defines a first edge and a second edge opposite the first edge that collectively define a fore edge of the closed bound document, comprising selecting a first portion of the plurality of sheets, folding the first portion of the plurality of sheets at a first fold angle and in a first fold direction, and trimming the folded first portion of the plurality of sheets near the first portion edges included in the first portion to partially achieve the desired edge effect for the bound document. The first portion of the plurality of sheets is greater than one sheet of the plurality of sheets. The first fold angle and the first fold direction are configured to achieve a desired fore edge effect.

System and method of trimming a bound document

A staple hole forming apparatus including a pair of pins and a pin receptor. The pair of pins are spaced from each other a distance substantially equal to a distance between two legs of a staple. The pin receptor is positioned opposite the pair of pins relative to a sheet path through the staple hole forming apparatus. The pin receptor is positioned to mate with at least one of the pair of pins. One of the pair of pins and the pin receptor is configured to move towards and mate with the other of the pair of pins and the pin receptor causing the pair of pins to penetrate a sheet extending between the pair of pins and the pin receptor to form two holes in the sheet. Each of the two holes is configured to receive one of the two legs of the staple.

Staple hole forming apparatus

A book finishing station configured to process a media sheet includes a support apparatus, a clamping apparatus, and a heating element. The clamping apparatus is spaced from the support apparatus. During use, a media sheet is positioned between the support apparatus and the clamping apparatus, and the clamping apparatus is configured to move toward the support apparatus to clamp the media sheet between the support apparatus and the clamping apparatus. The heating element is coupled with one of the support apparatus and the clamping apparatus and is configured to apply heat to the media sheet near a fold line defined by the media sheet.

Book finishing station with heating element and method of use

A method for aligning print media on a feedpath includes the steps of: aligning a sheet of print media using a deskew mechanism; measuring the skew of the sheet after it has been aligned; and comparing the measured skew with a specified skew, and if the measured value is greater than the specified value, reversing the sheet through the deskew mechanism followed by repeating the aligning, measuring and comparing steps. An apparatus for implementing alignment of print media on a feedpath comprises a deskew mechanism and sensors positioned downstream on the feedpath from the deskew mechanism to provide data sufficient to calculate the skew of the sheet.
