A roofing system has metal roofing shingles that have formed side lap features that are configured to facilitate alignment of adjacent side lapped metal roofing shingles of a shingle installation along a roofing structure and that couple the metal roofing shingles together and form seals and seams along their side lapped peripheral edges. The metal roofing shingles also can have alignment features that cooperate to align shingles in one course with shingles in a next lower course within their headlap regions. The roofing system also has standing seam features configured to couple to the metal roofing shingles to cover the formed seams.

A roofing system has metal shingles that have formed side lap features that are configured to facilitate alignment of adjacent side lapped metal shingles of a shingle installation along a roofing structure and that couple the metal shingles together and form seals along their side lapped peripheral edges. The metal shingles also can have alignment features that cooperate to align shingles in one course with shingles in a next lower course within their headlap regions.

An ember and flame resistant resettable automatic soffit vent includes a tray with ventilation openings formed in its floor. A mesh screen resides on the floor of the tray spanning the ventilation openings. A flat slide resides atop the screen and also has ventilation openings that match those of the tray. The slide has an open position wherein its ventilation openings align with those of the tray to allow airflow through the vent and a closed position wherein its ventilation openings are misaligned with the ventilation openings of the tray to close off airflow through the vent. The vent can be manually moved between its open and closed positions and one or more tension springs and a thermal link assembly cooperate to move the slide to its closed position if the vent is exposed to a high temperature cause by a fire very near a home. The vent also can be manually closed by a homeowner when a fire is threatening and then manually reopened when the fire threat passes without destroying the automatic closing feature of the vent.

Ember and flame resistant resettable automatic soffit vent

A hybrid solar attic vent comprising a housing configured to be mounted on the roof or in the gable of a building in communication with the attic of the building. A photovoltaic solar panel is positioned to be exposed to sunlight and to power the attic fan when sufficient sunlight is present. An alternative source of energy, which may be the building's AC power, is connected to the fan through an electronic control module. The control module monitors the output of the solar panel and switches the fan's power source from solar power to the alternative source of energy when the solar panel produces insufficient electrical energy to power the fan. A thermostat allows operation of the fan by the alternative power source only when the temperature in the attic is above a predetermined threshold.
