A time-based wireless pairing operation between a medical device, such as a patient bed, and a wall module in a patient room is initiated in response to a power plug of the medical device being plugged into a power receptacle carried by the wall module. Times determined by timers of the medical device and the wall module are compared by the wall module or by the medical device so that wireless pairing occurs only with the medical device that was plugged into the wall module. Different types of plug detectors used in the wall module to detect connection of the power plug include optical detectors, mechanical switches, and current sensors.

A patient support apparatus includes a bed including a frame. A mattress is supported by the frame. A respiratory therapy apparatus is supported by the frame. A patient support apparatus includes a frame and a mattress positioned on the frame. A respiratory therapy device is coupled to the frame. The respiratory therapy device includes a blower having an inlet and an outlet, a patient interface, and a valve including a valve member that is rotatable through a first angular displacement in a first direction from a first position to a second position. The outlet of the blower is coupled to the patient interface so that positive pressure is provided to a patient's airway via the patient interface when the valve member is in the first position. The inlet of the blower is coupled to the patient interface so that negative pressure is provided to the patient's airway via the patient interface when the valve member is in the second position.

A powered transport device for a person support apparatus includes a floor contacting driver, a prime mover, a power source and a controller. The prime mover is coupled to the driver and an output of the prime mover provides input to the driver. The power source provides power to the prime mover. The controller senses a performance characteristic of the powered transport device and varies the operation of the powered transport device based solely on the performance characteristic.

The patient support includes longitudinally spaced back, seat, and leg sections mounted to the intermediate frame for movement relative to one another and relative to the intermediate fame. The back, seat and leg sections are movable relative to the base tame about the horizontal transverse axis. A hydraulic system includes a first hydraulic cylinder actuating vertical movement of the staging frame relative to the lower frame, a second hydraulic cylinder actuating movement of the leg section relative to the seat section, and a pump actuating both the first and second hydraulic cylinders.

A neutral pedal is coupled to the brake-steer shaft so that movement of the neutral pedal to a neutral position automatically rotates the brake-steer shaft to move the wheel to the neutral position.

A neutral pedal is coupled to the brake-steer shaft so that movement of the neutral pedal to a neutral position automatically rotates the brake-steer shaft to move the wheel to the neutral position.

A chair for supporting a patient above a floor comprising a base frame, an intermediate frame coupled to the base frame for pivoting movement relative to the base frame about a generally horizontal transverse axis thereon and wherein the intermediate frame is lockable relative to the base frame. An articulated patient support including longitudinally spaced back and seat sections mounted to the intermediate frame for movement relative to one another and relative to the intermediate frame and wherein the back and seat sections are movable relative to the base frame about the horizontal transverse axis when the intermediate frame is locked relative to the base frame.
