A coating composition includes: (a) a phosphorus acid functional polyol polymer having an acid value within a range of greater than 7 mg KOH/g and 33 mg KOH/g or less, and a hydroxyl value within a range of from 60 to 200 mg KOH/g; (b) an aminoplast derived crosslinker reactive with the phosphorus acid functional polyol polymer; and (c) a non-aqueous liquid medium. Further, if an external catalyst is present, the coating composition comprises less than 0.25 weight % of the external catalyst based on the total weight of the coating composition. The coating composition cures at a temperature of 100° C. or less.

Coating compositions containing phosphorus acid functional polyol polymers and coatings formed therefrom

A coating composition includes: (a) an acid functional polyol polymer having an acid value of greater than 9 mg KOH/g and less than 60 mg KOH/g, and a hydroxyl value of from 100 to 300 mg KOH/g; (b) a non-aminoplast derived crosslinker reactive with the acid functional polyol polymer; and (c) a non-aqueous liquid medium. Further, an equivalent ratio of functional groups on the crosslinker reactive with hydroxyl functional groups to hydroxyl functional groups on the acid functional polyol polymer is within a range of from 0.5 to 1.5. The coating composition is substantially free of an external catalyst. The coating composition cures at a temperature of less than 80° C.

Coating compositions containing acid functional polyol polymers and coatings formed therefrom

A catalyst composition is provided. The composition comprises at least 30 percent by weight of a catalyst compound based on the total weight of solids in the catalyst composition; and a polymer prepared from ethylenically unsaturated monomers. The polymer either (i) has a backbone derived from substantially hydrophilic monomers and/or monomers containing groups that may be rendered substantially hydrophilic after polymerization, and a plurality of side chains along the backbone derived from substantially hydrophobic monomers, or (ii) has a backbone derived from substantially hydrophobic monomers and a plurality of side chains along the backbone derived from substantially hydrophilic monomers and/or monomers containing groups that may be rendered substantially hydrophilic after polymerization. The catalyst compound is contained within or encapsulated by the polymer. Methods of preparing the catalyst composition and curable compositions containing the catalyst composition are also provided.

Low temperature application coating composition comprising polyurea and a phosphorus-containing polyol and footwear comprising polyurea

A coating composition is disclosed comprising polyurea formed from a reaction mixture comprising isocyanate and a triamine/aspartate reaction product resulting from a Michael addition reaction of a triamine with a dialkyl maleate and/or a dialkyl fumarate. The reaction product has a viscosity of less than 2000 cPs, and the triamine has the structure: wherein each n is the same or different and is any integer. Substrates coated with these polyurea coatings comprising this reaction product are also disclosed.

Triamine/aspartate curative and coatings comprising the same

The present invention is directed to a coating composition comprising polyurea formed from a reaction mixture comprising: (a) a first component comprising isocyanate, wherein said isocyanate comprises an isocyanate functional prepolymer formed from a reaction mixture comprising isocyanate and a material comprising a phosphorus-containing polyol; and (b) a second component comprising an amine.

Coating compositions comprising polyurea and a phosphorous-containing polyol

A metallic substrate coated at least in part with a multilayer coating composite, comprising at least one of an electrocoat layer, a base coat layer, and a clearcoat layer; and a polyurea formed from a reaction mixture comprising isocyanate and a (meth)acrylated amine reaction product of a monoamine and a poly(meth)acrylate is disclosed. The ratio of equivalents of isocyanate groups to equivalents of amine groups in the polyurea is greater than 1 and the isocyanate functional component and the (meth)acrylated amine functional component can be applied to the substrate at a volume mixing ratio of 1:1. A building comprising a building component coated at least in part with such a polyurea is also disclosed, as is a substrate coated at least in part with such a polyurea, wherein the ratio of equivalents or isocyanate to equivalents of amine groups is greater than 1.3:1.

Substrates coated with a polyurea comprising a (meth)acrylated amine reaction product

Coating compositions comprising a polyurea formed from a reaction mixture comprising isocyanate and a (meth)acrylated amine are disclosed. The (meth)acrylated amine is the reaction product of a polyamine and a mono(meth)acrylate; the ratio of equivalents of isocyanate groups to equivalents of amine groups is greater than 1 and the isocyanate and the (meth)acrylated amine reaction product can be applied to a substrate at a volume mixing ratio of 1:1. The reaction product of a triamine and a dialkyl maleate and/or dialkyl fumarate, wherein the reaction product has a viscosity of less than 2000 cPs is disclosed. Polyurea coatings comprising this reaction product are also disclosed, as are substrates coated with the same.

Curable film-forming compositions comprising a film-forming resin and an organic sol of particles are provided. The sol of particles may be prepared by providing a suspension of particles in an aqueous medium; adding a first organic liquid compatible with the aqueous medium to form an admixture; reacting the particles with a first and a second modifying compound; adding a second organic liquid compatible with the liquid portion of the admixture wherein the second organic liquid is different from the first organic liquid; and maintaining the admixture at a temperature and pressure and for a time sufficient to substantially remove the water and the first organic liquid. The film-forming resin comprises an active hydrogen-functional polymer having low functionality; i.e., a functional group equivalent weight greater than 380 g/equivalent, and a crosslinking agent, yet surprisingly offers outstanding mar and scratch resistance.

Curable film-forming compositions containing colloidal particle sols having improved appearance and mar and scratch resistance

A composition that includes a non-gelled copolymer that contains residues having structural units (I): where n is an integer from 1 to 10,000; Ris linear or branched Cto Calkyl; Ris selected from the group consisting of methyl, linear, cyclic or branched Cto Calkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkaryl and aralkyl, and Ris a group resulting from a post polymerization reaction selected from transesterification, transamidification and hydrolysis with a compound selected from hydroxy functional compounds and amine functional compounds. The composition may contain co-reactive functional groups and may be a thermosetting composition. A substrate may be coated with the thermosetting composition singly or as part of a multi-layer composite coating that includes a base coat layer and a substantially pigment free top coat layer.

Compositions containing copolymers of olefinic monomers

A polyurea composition, a multi-component composite coating and articles formed therefrom, and methods of forming the same are disclosed. The coating composition is formed from a reaction mixture comprising an isocyanate-functional component and an amine-functional component. The ratio of equivalents of isocyanate groups to equivalents of amine groups is greater than 1 while the volume mixing ratio of the isocyanate-functional component to the amine-functional component is capable of being applied to a substrate at 1:1.

Multi-component coatings that include polyurea coating layers

Coating compositions formed from at least one hydroxyl functional non-vinyl material comprising at least one alcoholic hydroxyl group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent are provided by the present invention. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one carbamate functional material comprising at least one carbamate group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one carboxyl functional material comprising at least one carboxyl group blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Another embodiment of the present invention is directed to a coating composition formed from components comprising at least one amide functional material comprising at least one amide blocked with a hydrolyzable silyl group, and at least one curing agent. Other embodiments of the present invention are directed to substrates coated with the aforementioned cured compositions. Also provided are multi-component composite coatings which include a cured basecoat deposited from a pigmented coating composition and a cured topcoat deposited from a topcoating composition. The multi-component composite coatings of the invention provide highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings. Further embodiments of the present invention are directed to methods for improving scratch resistance of a substrate.
