Systems, methods, and devices for monitoring operation of industrial equipment are disclosed. In one embodiment, a monitoring system is provided that includes a passive backplane and one more functional circuits that can couple to the backplane. Each of the functional circuits that are coupled to the backplane can have access to all data that is delivered to the backplane. Therefore, resources (e.g., computing power, or other functionality) from each functional circuits can be shared by all active functional circuits that are coupled to the backplane. Because resources from each of the functional circuits can be shared, and because the functional circuits can be detachably coupled to the backplane, performance of the monitoring systems can be tailored to specific applications. For example, processing power can be increased by coupling additional processing circuits to the backplane.

In one embodiment, a condition monitoring circuit can include a circuit controller and a node. The node can include a gate controller, a node controller and one or more gates. The node can be configured to detachably couple to a bus of a monitoring system associated with an industrial machine. The circuit controller can be configured to identify an operating parameter associated with the industrial machine. The gate controller can be configured to transfer, via the one or more gates, one or more data packets including data characterizing the operating parameter from the bus in the monitoring system. The one or more gates can be configured to prevent transfer of an outgoing data packet to the bus via the node.

A housing for use in a monitoring system having at least one monitoring module includes a shell defining an interior cavity. At least one opening is defined in the shell, and the at least one opening is in flow communication with the interior cavity. The housing includes at least one gasket coupled to the shell about an outer perimeter of the at least one opening. The at least one gasket facilitates insulating the interior cavity from electromagnetic radiation when the at least one monitoring module is positioned within the housing.

A signal interface system and method of interfacing signal input sources with user output destination devices are provided. The signal interface system is configurable to accept one of a plurality of types of inputs. The signal interface system includes a common section, and a module section including two or more monitor modules. The two or more monitor modules condition a received signal for consumption by a user output destination device. The common input section allows monitor modules to be removed without impacting the function of other monitor modules in the system. The signal interface accepts either discrete inputs or process variable current inputs.

A method and an associated apparatus for a signal rectification and timing circuit. A variable amplitude input signal is generated. An upper threshold level is determined and a lower threshold level is determined. The variable amplitude input signal and the upper threshold level are input into a first comparator. The variable amplitude input signal and the lower threshold level are input into a second comparator. A first digital output signal is generated in the first comparator using a hysteresis circuit and a second digital output signal is generated in the second comparator using a hysteresis circuit. The first digital output signal and the second digital output signal are input into a logic array. A digital level pulse output signal is generated in the logic array that has a digital transition where the variable amplitude input signal passed through a threshold level.

A first backplane for being electrically coupled to a second backplane, a system monitoring module, and at least one transducer monitoring module includes a system interface bus configured to be coupled to the system monitoring module and the second backplane. The intermediate backplane also includes at least one monitor interface bus configured to be coupled to the at least one transducer monitoring module and the second backplane and an intermediate backplane bus configured to be coupled to the at least one transducer monitoring module and the system monitoring module.
