A control device includes an exterior panel comprising multiple regions, including a groove region and a surrounding region that surrounds the groove region. The control device further includes a sensor layer comprising one or more sensors to detect touch inputs performed on the groove region and the surrounding region of the exterior panel. The control device further includes a control module configured to operate a plurality of devices. The control module is configured to detect a first touch input performed by a user on the groove region and a second touch input performed on the surrounding region. Based at least in part on the location of the touch inputs the control module operates respective devices of the plurality of devices.

A mounting device includes a panel portion, and a fastener receiving structure provided within a perimeter of the panel portion. The fastener receiving structure can include a flexure mechanism to enable at least a portion of the fastener receiving structure to flex with insertion of a fastener into the flexure mechanism that attaches the panel portion against an underlying surface.

A home device controller can monitor published state data on a message bus of a distributed system of home device controllers, the published state data indicating current states of home devices connected to each home device controller of the distributed system. The home device controller can detect, from the message bus, a fault condition corresponding to a specified home device controller in the distributed system of home device controllers. Based on the fault condition and a set of acquisition rules, the home device controller acquires a home device in the local network of the specified home device controller in the distributed system. Based on the published state data on the message bus, the home device controller maintains a current state of the acquired home device.

A shutter mechanism for a camera of an electronic device can include a slider mechanism that enables the shutter mechanism to operate between an open state in which a lens of the camera is exposed and a closed state that blocks the lens of the camera. The slider mechanism comprises a one or more slider appendages that operate the shutter mechanism between the open state and the closed state. Each of the one or more slider appendages slide along a horizontal axis in relation to a horizontal axis corresponding to the lens of the camera.

A device controller can communicate with a local network of devices and one or more intermediary devices for transmitting scene commands for implementation of a scene. The device controller may create a mesh bridge with the one or more intermediary devices to establish a communication link with a controlled device and generate and transmit a set of one or more scene commands via the mesh bridge to the controlled device to execute the scene.

A distributed system of home device controllers can control a set of home devices. A home device controller of the system can determine a set of configurations for a set of home devices being repeatedly configured by a user. The controller can automatically display a selectable feature indicating a suggested scene corresponding to the set of configurations for the set of home devices. The system can receive one or more inputs to select the suggested scene, and based at least in part on the one or more inputs, associate the suggest scene with a set of triggers. In response to detecting the set of triggers, the controller can automatically transmit a set of commands that correspond to the suggested scene to the set of home devices to execute the suggested scene.

The optical code encodes a device identifier of the control device and a secret code. The control device includes a wireless transceiver configured to communicate with a user device during a provisioning sequence of events that is initiated based on the user device scanning the optical code to obtain the device identifier and the secret code.

An electrical mating interface includes one or more electrical connectors that electrically couple the mounting device to a corresponding set of electrical connectors of an electronic device. The electrical mating interface further includes a front fa&#xe7;ade comprising a plunger coupled to a safety switch. The safety switch is disposed between the one or more electrical connectors and main wiring of a dwelling. When the plunger depresses upon coupling of the electronic device to the electrical mating interface, the safety switch closes and electrically couples the main wiring of the dwelling to the electronic device.

A home device controller can include one or more touch grooves, a touch slider operatively coupled to each of the one or more touch grooves, and one or more processors. The processor(s) can receive signals from each touch sensor, each signal corresponding to a touch gesture performed by a user interacting with the one or more touch grooves. The processor(s) can generate control commands executable by a home device based at least in part on the signals, and transmit the control commands to the home device for execution.

A touch-based control device can include an exterior panel that includes a groove region and a surrounding region, one or more touch sensors for detecting touch inputs performed anywhere on a substantial portion of the exterior panel, and a sensing module comprising one or more processors to detect, via the one or more touch sensors, touch inputs performed by a user on the exterior panel. The sensing module can interpret the touch input based on at least one of (i) a region where the touch input occurred, or (ii) a type of the touch input, and control a connected device based on the interpreted touch input.

A device controller can include one or more touch sensors, an exterior panel, and a wireless transceiver to communicate with a local network of smart devices and one or more intermediary devices for transmitting scene commands for implementation by a second device controller. The device controller may create a mesh bridge with the one or more intermediary devices to establish a communication link with the destination controller and generate and transmit a set of scene commands via the mesh bridge to the destination controller to cause the destination controller to execute the scene.

A home device controller can publish state data indicating a state of each home device in its local network of home devices to a message bus of the distributed system, the message bus being accessed by each of a plurality of home device controllers in a distributed system of home device controllers. In doing so, the distributed system can mitigate or resolve fault conditions occurring with any of the home device controllers in the distributed system through a lease acquisition process that enables home device controllers to acquire the home devices from other home device controllers.
