A water-soluble pressure sensitive adhesive comprises a homogeneous blend comprising (a) a polymer selected from the group consisting of N-vinyl caprolactam homopolymers, N-vinyl pyrrolidone copolymers, and mixtures thereof and (b) a non-volatile plasticizer comprising a monohydric or polyhydric alcohol having hydrophilic-lipophilic balance of about 2 to about 10. The N-vinyl pyrrolidone copolymers comprise about 60% or less by weight N-vinyl pyrrolidone.

The present invention relates to stable colloidal dispersions of sulfonated polyurethane ureas and self-supporting films formed from these dispersions. After formation of the sulfonated polyurethane urea, alcohols can be added to the aqueous dispersion to provide a water-alcohol system. A polyurethane dispersion and method of making are provided. The dispersion is stable in an alcohol-water mixture. A polyurethane dispersion and a method of making are provided. The polyurethane dispersion is stable in a mixture of alcohol and water. The dispersion comprises the reaction product of (a) an isocyanate terminated polyurethane prepolymer comprising the reaction product of (i) at least one oligomeric polyactive hydrogen compound insoluble in said alcohol, wherein said polyactive hydrogen compound is an alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl structure optionally substituted by N, O, and S; (ii) at least one polyisocyanate, and (iii) at least one polyactive hydrogen compound soluble in said mixture of alcohol and water; (b) a polyfunctional chain extender; and (c) a monofunctional chain terminator; wherein the equivalent ratio of difunctional chain extender to prepolymer isocyanate is 0.60 to 1.20.
