Disclosed are processes, systems, and reaction systems for the oligomerization of ethylene to form an oligomer product in a reaction zone using a catalyst system having i) a chromium component comprising an N-phosphinyl amidine chromium compound complex, an N-phosphinyl formamidine chromium compound complex, an N-phosphinyl guanidine chromium compound complex, or any combination thereof, and ii) an aluminoxane. Ethylene can be contacted with an organic reaction medium to form an ethylene feedstock mixture prior to contact with the catalyst system. The ethylene feedstock mixture can be contacted with the catalyst system inside or outside of the reaction zone.

Process improvements in selective ethylene oligomerizations

N-phosphinyl amidine compounds, N-phosphinyl amidinates, N-phosphinyl amidine metal salt complexes, N-phosphinyl amidinate metal salt complexes are described. Phosphinyl amidine compounds, metal complexes, catalyst systems, and their use to oligomerize or polymerize olefins

Disclosed herein are catalyst compositions containing a heteroatomic ligand transition metal compound complex, a chemically-treated solid oxide, and an organoaluminum compound. These catalyst compositions can be used in an ethylene oligomerization process to produce a liquid oligomer product containing hexene and octene, as well as a solid polymer product with a molecular weight sufficiently high to permit easy separation of the liquid oligomer product from the solid polymer product.
