A computer-implemented method for performing incremental database backups may include (1) identifying a request to perform a block-level incremental backup of a database, the block-level incremental backup including data that has changed within the database since a previous block-level incremental backup of the database, (2) requesting, in response to the request, a differential backup stream from a database server of the database, (3) creating an incremental backup stream from the differential backup stream at least in part by removing at least one database block from the differential backup stream that has not changed since the previous block-level incremental backup and (4) forwarding the incremental backup stream to a backup location to create the block-level incremental backup. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Systems and methods for performing incremental database backups

Methods, computer program products, computer systems, and the like, which provide for the performance of a targeted backup operation, are disclosed. Such a targeted backup operation is performed on a backup that comprises a plurality of data blocks. The data blocks, in turn, comprise an in-use data block and an unused data block. The targeted backup operation comprises performing a backup operation on the in-use data block.

Method for performing targeted backup

A system, method, and medium for performing incremental backups of a Microsoft SQL server database. A snapshot of the database is created, and then a map identifying the changed extents is retrieved from the snapshot. The changed extents are then retrieved from the snapshot and stored in a backup storage device. For a restore operation, a full database backup file is written to a storage device and then the changed extents from a stored incremental backup file may be merged with the full backup file. Next, the database server is notified of the reconstructed file and then the reconstructed file is mounted by the database server as a live instance of the database.

Method and system of performing incremental SQL server database backups

A system and method for restoring site collections stored in different content databases of a web application are disclosed. A restoration GUI may be displayed. Displaying the restoration GUI may include determining a plurality of databases used for the web application. For each respective database of the plurality of databases, one or more site collections stored in the database may be determined. Displaying the graphical user interface may further comprise displaying an aggregated view of the site collections stored in each database of the plurality of databases. The aggregated view may enable each site collection to be selected for restoration.

A system and method for restoring multiple content databases of a web application are disclosed. A restoration GUI may indicate one or more available recovery times. User input selecting a particular recovery time may be received. The selected recovery time may correspond to a first time when a first database was backed up. The system may determine that the web application also included one or more other databases in addition to the first database at the first time. Information indicating the first database together with the one or more other databases may be displayed in association with the selected recovery time in the graphical user interface.

Restore software with aggregated view of content databases

A system and method for managing data in a computer system. A backup server is configured to harvest data indicative of logical relationships among data entries in a backup data set. The harvested data and backup data set are stored on a backup medium. Catalog entries are created for both the backup data set and the harvested data. The computer system allows a user to browse the backup catalog, including the logical structure of the content of a particular backup data set. The user may select particular items for restoration from the catalog. In response, the server restores the backup data set and harvested data to a temporary location, identifies data in the harvested data which corresponds to the user's selections, searches the backup data set for the selected items, and initiates restoration of the selected items.

Logical application data restore from a database backup

A method and mechanism for performing backup and restore operations in a computing system. A computing system includes a first agent on a first host, a second agent on a second host, a plurality of data sources, and a backup server. The backup server sends a first request to the first agent for a logical backup data set that is distributed on the plurality of data sources. The first agent, in response to the first request, conveys a first portion of the logical backup data set from a first data source to the backup server and sends a second request for backup data to the second agent. The second agent conveys a second portion of the logical backup data set from a second data source to the first agent in response to the second request.

Protecting data for distributed applications using cooperative backup agents

A computer network having a number of workstations running disparate operating systems and a file server having a tape drive for backup and restore of data on the network. The file server runs a generic remote file system (GRFS) and workstations run GRFS agent programs which allow the GRFS file system to access data within a workstation having a given GRFS agent program. The GRFS file system interfaces with each GRFS agent program via a command/response paradigm, with the messages being structured to support the disparate operating systems for backup and restore, to allow data to be interchanged between the disparate operating systems, and to allow independent multiple users of the network to request simultaneously backup or restore.
