A portable electric fan including a plurality of posts connectable to form an elongated pole having first and second ends; a pedestal attached to the first end of the pole and adapted to provide support thereof on a base surface; and a clamp attached to the second end of the pole and adapted for clamping engagement with an upper surface spaced from the base surface. Also included is an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the length of the pole and a blower retained by the pole.

A chair (10) having adjustable height includes a seat (11) and a number of leg members (12). An adjusting mechanism (30) includes an insert sleeve (40) received within a hollow area (31) of a leg member (12). The insert sleeve (40) has an internal thread (52) which threadably receives a leg extension (60) having an external thread (61). Rotation of the leg extension (60) within the sleeve (40) adjusts the length of the leg member (12).

A portable electric fan including a base having an upwardly directed coupling surface and a bottom surface for mounting on a foundation; a support having a downwardly directed coupling surface rotatably mounted on the upwardly directed coupling surface; a housing fixed to the support so as to be movable therewith, a fan blade retained by the housing; and an electric motor operatively coupled to said fan blade and energizable to produce rotation thereof. The coupling surfaces are shaped and arranged to produce in response to rotation of the support relative to the base, movement of the housing having both horizontal and vertical components.
