An improved method for programming a vehicle remote entry receiver includes transmitting the information over the vehicle data bus line. A diagnostic box which is typically utilized to check the electrical systems on the vehicle is provided with a switch that moves the vehicle receiver into a programming mode. Information with regard to the transmitters that are to be associated with the vehicle receiver may then be transmitted over the bus line to the receiver. Alternatively, the receiver itself may capture the transmitter signals.

Method of teaching transmitter codes to remote receivers

After a vehicle has entered a sleep mode, the disclosed method places the vehicle monitoring system into longer and longer nap periods provided the monitoring system does not receive a wake-up signal from one of a plurality of vehicle subsystems. During the nap periods, the monitoring system requires a reduced amount of operating power thereby decreasing the parasitic current drain on the battery during the sleep mode.

A plurality of switches are connected to a lesser plurality of shift registers which are controlled by the microcontroller to provide serial binary signals over a single data line with a voltage level clamp by a zener diode in response to clock pulses. A second plurality of switches and rheostats are supplied to a lessor plurality of multiplexers. One of the input channels to each of the multiplexers is selected in response to a channel select signal provided by the microcontroller. The registers and multiplexers produce output signals that are clamped to a lower microcontroller operating level. Signals from the microcontroller are skipped as to control the registers and multiplexers. The operation of the switches and rheostats is used by the microcontroller to control the power devices such as lights, windows, turn signals and air conditioning.

Moreover, the system includes a microcontroller, having an active and a sleep mode of operation, for polling the status of the device during the active mode, initiating a function in response to a change in the status during the active mode, and for conserving quiescent current drawn from the power supply during the sleep mode. The microcontroller generates an output signal at a first voltage level during the active mode and generates the output signal at a second voltage level during the sleep mode. The microcontroller, additionally, includes a sensor for switching the microcontroller from the sleep mode to the active mode. Furthermore system includes a storage device for charging to the first voltage level during the active mode, and for discharging to a third voltage level during the sleep mode for triggering the sensor to switch from the sleep mode to the active mode.

System and method for reducing quiescent current in a microcontroller

A unique transmitter broadcasting a single RF (radio frequency) signal in response to a single input for controlling a plurality of electrical vehicle accessories. To control the plurality of accessories, the RF signal conveys multiple information components. In a preferred embodiment, the transmitter operates in conjunction with a RF receiver installed in a vehicle to unlock the doors of the vehicle when a unique RF signal is broadcast within a defined range and actuate the horn of the vehicle when the same RF signal is broadcast outside of the defined range.

The present invention teaches a method and system of encrypting a set of data having a test bit. The method comprises the step of generating a first and a second data string from the set of data. Once generated, the test bit is tested, and should it comprises a first value, the first data string is shifted in a first direction to transfer a carry over bit from a carry over register into the first data string while transferring a first bit of the first data string to said carry over register. This shifting step is followed by the step of shifting the second data string in a second direction to transfer a first bit of the second data string to the carry over register while transferring the carry over bit from the carry over register into the second data string. However, if the test bit comprises a second value, a first logic operation is executed on the first data string with a first number, and a second logic operation is executed on the second data string with a second number. Thereafter, the first data string is shifted in the second direction such that said carry over bit from said carry over register is transferred onto the first data string while the first bit of the first data string is transferred to the carry over register. Subsequently, the second data string is shifted in the first direction such that the carry over bit from the carry over register is transferred onto the second data string while the first bit of the second data string is transferred to the carry over register.

Remote keyless entry encryption algorithm

The present invention teaches a method and system for resynchronizing a remote keyless entry receiver having received a new encrypted message transmitted by the transmitter which does not match a previous encrypted message, also transmitted by the transmitter, and stored in memory. The method comprises a first step of transmitting and receiving a first new follow up encrypted message. Subsequently, the received new encrypted message is re-encrypted, and that result is tested against the received first new follow up encrypted message to determine whether there is a match. In the event both match, a second new follow up encrypted message transmitted and received. At this point, the received re-encrypted new encrypted message is re-encrypted a second time, and that result is tested against the received second new follow up encrypted message to determine whether there is a further match. If a match is made, the received second new follow up encrypted message is decrypted and the command within the received and decrypted second new follow up encrypted message is initiated.

The present invention relates generally to an apparatus for securely retaining a small battery or electric cell on a printed circuit board, and for providing electrical contacts which engage the battery for use in an electronic circuit. The present invention provides an improved mechanical attachment of the battery retention apparatus to the circuit board by means of a plurality of tabs which extend through and engage the printed circuit board. These tabs are separate and apart from the electrical connections to the circuit board. The apparatus of the present invention provides a lightweight, low-profile, rugged battery retention mechanism capable of withstanding impulse forces. The apparatus is low-cost, easily manufactured, and facilitates easy installation, and is particularly well suited for remote control devices and other hand-held or portable units.

If the detected current is excessive the devices are independently activated and the current through each device is compared with stored current level for the device.
