Invention for extraction and accumulation of energy from displacement of an agitated fluid includes buoyant body, camshaft, flywheel, and platforms. Buoyant body floats upon agitated fluid surface and is constrained to vertical translation. Buoyant body translation is converted to flywheel rotation via bearings which engage helical cam tracks of a camshaft. Camshaft is torsionally engaged with flywheel. Buoyant body and camshaft are fitted with unidirectional rotary clutches. Upon action of rising wave, buoyant force is exerted upon buoyant body, displacing body vertically and causing bearings to apply torsion to camshaft, driving camshaft and flywheel into rotation. Upon wave recession, buoyant body descends under self weight via freewheeling action of unidirectional clutches. Flywheel may be filled with or emptied of fluid to adjust its rotary inertia during operation. Buoyant body has a tapered shape and may be filled with or emptied of fluid to adjust its interface with agitated fluid.

A system and method for controlling traffic and traffic lights and selectively distributing warning messages to motorists includes a controller to determine appropriate action based on traffic congestion parameters. Fuzzy logic is used to determine optimum traffic light phase split based on the traffic information from the traffic information units. Global Positioning System technology is used by the system and method in order to track moving vehicles and signs and be able to communicate with them.

Friend or foe warning unit has a geographic locating system, a communication system for communicating with each of the warning units, and a military force detection system for detecting military forces in a combat area and has a signal routing and control circuitry for controlling operations. A number of components, devices, or sub-systems, such as a transmitter/receiver radio , an antenna , a microphone , a speaker , a battery , a display , a microprocessor , a memory , a camera , a radar/lidar input , on/off switch , a GPS location system that includes a GPS processor , a GPS receiver , a GPS antenna , are coupled to the circuitry . Display provides a display to the user of the unit and shows the location of friendly forces as well as unfriendly or unidentified forces in the area. Display displays text messages for the user of the warning unit . The microprocessor together with memory provide microprocessor control of the operations of the warning unit . The geographic locating system includes GPS processor , GPS receiver , and GPS antenna , and it is used to determine the exact location of the warning unit . The unit is able to broadcast and receive military force information, such as location and status (i.e. friendly, unfriendly, unidentified statuses). An expert system military action advisory system and method for advising military troops or personnel of firing decisions is also disclosed. A firing index is determined based on the membership variables, and the firing index is used to help make the firing decisions. The membership variables and the firing index are defined for an expert system or fuzzy logic system, and the expert system or fuzzy logic system helps determine making the firing decisions. The system and method operate by transmitting target and friendly force GPS coordinate information to determine danger. Alternatively, only target coordinates are transmitted with fire danger indices calculated on a distributed basis by individual warning units and transmitted to the source of fire without friendly force location coordinates to assist in making final firing decisions.

Friend or foe detection system and method and expert system military action advisory system and method

A rotary power transmission device is disclosed in which output/input speed ratio is automatically and continuously adjusted as a function of both demand torque and demand speed by translation of a traction wheel upon the faces of two coaxial counter-rotating drive plates which are in concurrent tangential enforced contact with the wheel, with wheel serving as output. Translation of wheel is accomplished by applying opposed forces of a hydraulically actuated piston and a compression spring. Magnitude of hydraulic pressure upon piston is defined by combined action of pump speed and restriction of a flow control valve. By causing pump speed to be proportional to input speed, and valve restriction to be a function of an environmental variable such as inclination of a vehicle equipped with the transmission, traction wheel position and thus speed ratio is automatically adjusted as a function of both demand torque and demand speed. Traction wheel translation under high radial force is facilitated by use of rollers circumferentially distributed upon the periphery of traction wheel, which react radial forces while rolling upon drive plates in response to translation of traction wheel.

Automatic continuously variable transmission

A system and method for controlling traffic and traffic lights and selectively distributing warning messages to motorists is described. Traffic information is obtained from various traffic information units. The traffic information units have intelligent controllers. The traffic information is transmitted to at least one central controller. The central controller is used to determine congestion parameters and warning information. The congestion parameters and the warning information are transmitted from the central controller to the intelligent controllers. The intelligent controllers are used to determine appropriate action based on the congestion parameters and the warning information. Fuzzy logic is used to determine optimum traffic light phase split based on the traffic information from the traffic information units. The optimum traffic light phase split is determined for each of the intelligent controllers. Fuzzy logic controllers are used to execute fuzzy logic inference rules from a fuzzy rule base in determining the congestion parameters and the warning information and the appropriate action. Input variables and output variables are defined as members of fuzzy sets having degrees of membership determined by membership functions. The fuzzy rule base is used to define a fuzzy inference system wherein the fuzzy rule base is based on expert knowledge for system control based on observed values of control variables. The input variables are used to define the membership functions used by the fuzzy rule base. A reasoning mechanism is used to execute the fuzzy rule base and the fuzzy inference system. The membership functions are used to convert the input variables to output variables that define the control variables. Membership functions may be a fuzzy membership for traffic flow or for traffic light phase split. The input variables may be a level of avoidance variable, a length of warning radius variable, or a distance to dangerous situation variable. The output variables may be an output danger index or a radius of concern parameter.
