Disposable alternating tangential flow filtration units

A fluid treatment assembly comprises one or more cross flow fluid treatment units positioned between opposite end pieces. The fluid treatment unit includes a permeable fluid treatment medium having a feed side and a permeate side. The fluid treatment assembly further comprises a feed inlet and feed passage, a permeate outlet and a permeate passage, and a retentate outlet and a retentate passage. The feed passage directs feed fluid from the feed inlet to the permeable medium and tangentially along the feed side of the permeable medium. The permeate passage directs permeate from the permeate side of the permeable medium to the permeate outlet. The retentate passage directs retentate from the feed side of the permeable medium to the retentate outlet. A flow restrictor is positioned in the retentate passage.

This invention relates to filtration manifolds, filtration assemblies, methods of channeling permeate, and filtration units. Filtration assemblies may include filtration units and filtration manifolds having isolated permeate collection passages. Permeate may be channeled through the isolated permeate collection passages of the filtration manifold during filtration and then output from the manifold.

The present invention provides methods for producing single and multi-layered coiled hollow fiber bundles for use in separation modules whose performance can be predicted, said modules being designed to take advantage of the benefits of Dean vortices. The present invention is also directed to multi-layered coiled hollow fiber bundles for use in separation modules that are directly scalable because each layer performs substantially equivalently to the other layers when subjected to a fluid of a certain velocity such that Dean vortices are created.

Hollow fiber separation module and methods for manufacturing same

One or more hollow fiber membranes having a coflow of filtrate to provide trans-membrane pressure (TMP) control. The membranes preferably are capable or forming a shear effect or Dean vortices at their inner surface. Optionally, the filtrate channel may contain one or more types of beads, either inert or formed of a capture resin such as affinity chromatography beads or ion exchange resins, for selectively capturing and retaining certain molecules from the filtrate of feedstream. The beads, in addition to the optional capture function, aid in the control of the TMP.

The heat exchange apparatus is provided with an inlet and an outlet for a process fluid and at least one inlet and at least one outlet for a heat exchange fluid. The sealing configuration of the presealed elements and the seal provided by the insert molding effect a seal configuration that causes heat to be transferred between the process fluid and the heat exchange fluid while preventing mass transfer between the two fluids.

A manifold segment is provided for tangential flow filtration apparatus. The manifold segment includes a fluid feed conduit, a retentate conduit, a filtrate inlet and a filtrate outlet. An adaptor manifold is provided which directs filtrate from the manifold segment into a tangential flow filtration module and directs filtrate from the module into the manifold segment. Filtrate introduced into the tangential flow filtrate module reduces pressure drop across a filter layer in the module.

A spiral wound filtration cartridge construction is provided which includes a cartridge positioned within a solid outer cylinder which, in turn is positioned within a solid housing. Fluid flow within the space between the outer cylinder and housing is controlled by an end plate construction. The rigid solid end plate construction includes outer peripheral holes, the sizes and number of which are set to determine by-pass flow.
