Motor controller housing

An electric motor assembly includes a stator, a rotor, a motor housing, a rotatable shaft, a radial fan, and an air scoop. The motor housing at least partly houses the stator and rotor and presents an exterior motor surface. The rotatable shaft is associated with the rotor for rotational movement therewith, with the rotatable shaft extending along a rotational axis. The radial fan is mounted on the rotatable shaft exteriorly of the motor housing and is rotatable with the shaft to direct airflow in a radially outward direction. The air scoop extends radially outwardly relative to the radial fan and axially to receive radial airflow from the radial fan and turn the airflow axially to flow along the exterior motor surface. The air scoop includes spaced apart axially extending airflow vanes to guide the airflow as the airflow is turned axially.

A rotor assembly for an electric motor includes a rotor core that is fabricated from a plurality of stacked laminations. The rotor core has a plurality of arcuately arranged, axially extending magnet receiving slots. The rotor core includes a plurality of magnets received in respective ones of the magnet receiving slots. The laminations include radially extending deflectable magnet retaining tabs that extend into the magnet receiving slots. The magnet retaining tabs engage and are deflected by a corresponding one of the magnets to exert a reactive force against the magnets.

An electric motor includes a stator assembly and a rotor assembly. The rotor assembly includes a rotor shaft that is rotatable relative to the stator assembly about a rotation axis. The motor also includes an endshield, a bearing assembly rotatably supporting the rotor shaft on the endshield, a shaft ground assembly electrically coupled to the rotor shaft, and a bearing lockplate. The bearing lockplate is fixedly coupled to the endshield. The shaft ground assembly is supported by the bearing lockplate on the endshield.

A motor assembly includes a motor, a controller controlling at least one aspect of operation of the motor, and a control housing defining a control chamber. The controller is in part received within the control chamber. The controller includes a main electronics board and a modular connector assembly. The modular connector assembly includes a secondary electronics board and a connector at least in part supporting the secondary electronics board. The connector includes an inner connector portion and an outer connector portion. The connector extends through the control housing such that the inner connector portion is disposed inside the control chamber and the outer connector portion is disposed outside the control chamber. The outer connector portion defines a first access portal facilitating access to a first component of the secondary electronics board.

A method of electrically grounding a rotor shaft of an electric motor includes removing a first lockplate fastener from a motor endshield and an internal bearing lockplate. A second lockplate fastener remains coupled to the motor endshield and internal bearing lockplate such that the internal bearing lockplate stays secured along an interior side of the motor endshield. A mounting plate of a shaft ground assembly is positioned along an exterior side of the motor endshield. The mounting plate supports a shaft ground that includes a conductive element configured to electrically couple to the rotor shaft. The first lockplate fastener is replaced with a first mounting plate fastener coupled to the mounting plate, motor endshield, and bearing lockplate to secure the mounting plate to the endshield and to secure the bearing lockplate along the interior side of the motor endshield.

Method and apparatus for providing motor with shaft ground

A motor controller assembly is configured for use with an electric motor and includes a controller and an absorbent pad. The controller includes a capacitor with a capacitor shell and a liquid electrolyte contained therein. The capacitor shell has a frangible rupture area that opens during a capacitor rupture event to permit the discharge of liquid electrolyte from the capacitor shell. The absorbent pad overlies the rupture area to collect discharged liquid electrolyte.

A motor includes a shaft presenting a shaft lead end, a switch assembly including a switch arm shiftable between a first position and a second position, and shield structure. The shaft lead end and the switch assembly are disposed axially outward of an endhsield. The shield structure is disposed axially outward of the switch arm to at least substantially restrict direct tool access to the switch arm from an axially outward position relative to the switch arm. The shield structure at least in part defines first and second tool access channels each extending radially inwardly to the shaft lead end, such that the shield structure enables direct tool access to the shaft lead end via the tool access channels but prevents or at least substantially restricts direct tool access to the switch arm via the tool access channels.
